On Monday I went to the Girlz Garage tour in Boston and it was a good time. When we got there, Lennon's crew was setting up her gear. She played an acoustic set with herself on piano and a drummer/guitarist. I was wondering how this was going to work live, but work it did, and damn was it fun.
We walked towards the stage and I got front and center. I saw Lennon come in through the side door. Up until this point, I didn't know my friend had never seen a picture of Lennon. When my friend, who is bi, saw Lennon she went "Oh my GOD, she is HOT!"
The second song was one I knew and I started singing along. Lennon looked down and saw me singing along and smiled at me When she said she had two more songs to go my friend was like "No! More! More!"
After the set, I talked with some other fans who were also singing along. This girl I met, she had just moved here from India about 2 and1/2 years ago. When she got here, she had NO friends for a real long time and during this period, she got into Lennon and her music helped her through those rough times. This was her first ever Lennon show and she got to meet her, get her autograph, and thank her for the music that helped her keep her head up. How fucking cool is that?
So when I got to talk to Lennon, she said "Ah-ha! You are the knower-of-the-words?" I complimented her on the SG pictorials and she was very pleased to hear it. She asked me "Did you see the new one? I didn't even know it was up until I started getting all these emails about it!"
We also talked about Henry Rollins. A fan of hers in Denver gave her a copy of "See A Grown Man Cry/Now Watch Him Die" and she's enjoying it. I told her it was cool she was getting into him cuz she reads Ayn Rand and I remember reading a review somewhere that said Rollins is a real life Howard Roark (Ayn Rand character). She also liked my Rollins hoodie. Oooh and get this: Lennon did a session of some sort in the past with former Rollins Band drummer SIM CAIN! How fucking cool is THAT?
So after chatting with her for a while, I said my goodbyes and got a nice biiiiiiiiig hug from Lennon
Easily one of the coolest rock stars I've EVER met. She loves to chill and talk with fans after shows. Her new acoustic album "Career Suicide" is AMAZING! It's destined to be not only in genral heavy rotation in my collection, but also one to pull out whenever I'm feeling down and want to listen to something melodic and melancholy.
I can't wait to see her live again and for her new album to come out.
p.s. The Start also rocked. I'm definitely gonna check out their album soon.
