While burning files to CDR to be transferred to my new comp, I found an old playlist for a mix CD I burned a summer or two ago. I think it was back in 2001. I was working full time at a clothing discount store; lots of long eight hour shifts. I needed to though, cuz I needed money for school textbooks and commuter rail T passes. Not to mention the occasional rock concert as well.
Despite the rock concerts, I was still feeling run down. In retresopect I see I should've gotten out way more often than when I was. I have lots of friends, the problem is that most of them I made at school, and I don't have many friends locally cuz I've only lived here for three years when I moved here with my family. Also chalk it up to the fact that I am one Grade A, certified introvert. I was also still single and struggling to start a band and write and play music again.
Anyway, I wanted to find out if I the CD burner I had for this PC would burn an 80 minute CDR even though it was made back when CD's were only 74 minutes long. As a test drive, I put together a mix CD. Every mix I make has some sort of theme or purpose. The purpose behind this one was a mix of songs that reflected my mood at the time: exhausted, pent up, lonely, frustrated, and disgusted with myself.
Anyway, here is the list. It's title comes from a Rollins Band song called "I FEEL LIKE THIS".
1. Intro "You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me?" (WAV file of Deniro's infamous line from "Taxi Driver")
2.Nine Inch Nails - "The Big Come Down"
3.Soundgarden - "Mailman"
4.Rollins Band - "Starve"
5.Radiohead - "Climbing up the Walls"
6.Tool - "Part of Me"
7.Quicksand - "Freezing Process"
8.Deftones - "Rickets"
9.Slipknot - "Tattered and Torn"
10.Filter - "Take Another"
11. Marilyn Manson - "Minute of Decay"
12.Poison The Well - "A Wish for Wings that Work"
13.Alice In Chains - "Frogs"
14.Smashing Pumpkins - "Tales of Scorched Earth"
15.Korn - "Dirty"
(about 10 minutes of blank space tracks)
hidden tracks:
16.Poison The Well - "Karsey Street" (an instrumental featuring the famous speech by Col. Kurtz (Marlon Brando) from the movie "Apocalypse Now", This speech included the immortal line "Horror and moral terror are your friends, if they are not then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies")
17.Rollins Band - "Yellow Blues"
I didn't end up using the actual song "I Feel Like This" on here cuz i think the other Rollins songs I used fit better. It's an okay mix. I think I threw it away after burning it cuz the damn shitty burner didn't put all of the "Taxi Driver" intro on there. I'm glad I found it though. It's an interesting snapshot from my past.
I have a few mix CD ideas in the works now as well. At some point I really want to trade theme mixes with people. I'd love to compare and contrast how I and someone else expresses themselves in a mix, in lyrics and music.
One idea that really has me stoked is trading mixes with someone from another country. We would each make a mix that describes how we feel about our respective homes. I think it would be fascinating. I would listen to EVERY track all the way through. Even if it's something I don't like, I'll pay close attention to the words to understand what that person is feeling. I'm not sure if it'll ever happen though. The mix I'm planning will likely end up being 2 CD's long. I can only hope I'll find someone else that ambitious.......or at least someone with way too much time on their hands.......kind of like me.
