Took E with my girl two nights ago. Went out to houhai after we popped the hit, and walked around the lake. All the bar lights were on, people were floating in swan shaped boats, hawkers were selling lanterns on the side of the street. Very pretty.

The E was ok. Too sleepy to be sexy, to stimulating to be relaxing.

The real upshot of the night was that I ran into an old friend who I thought had been nabbed by the police for selling pirate DVDs. I walked into his store that day (which was in the back of a very respectable bookshop), and the place had been raided and everything and everyONE had been cleared out. I was really worried for him, cuz I had heard that it was five years in jail for it, even tho he wasn't the owner, just the clerk.

Turns out he had just happened not to go to work that day. When he heard what happened he kicked it over to Shanghai for a month until the heat cooled down, so to speak. His friends who got arrested as just getting out of prison now, three years later.

I met him again in a shop near Houhai. He was hand-painting the covers of notebooks. He said, "Hey!" and I turned and I said "Hey!" We both had big goofy grins on our faces.
