Ahoy SG land!
You've changed! Everything looks different! This might take some getting used to, but change is good, right?
I've been keeping busy with work of all sorts. I'm organizing Ottawa's first annual Capital Burlesque Expo that will take place in April from the 4th to the 6th! It's a hell of a lot of work and I've been putting SO MUCH of my time in to it. There have been so many obstacles and changes in the planning process. I just hope everything goes according to plan. Once the weekend finally comes it's going to be awesome. We have three days of shows and activities planned, performances by about 40 artists throughout the weekend including the 2010 Burlesque Hall of Fame's queen of burlesque, and fellow Canadian, Roxi D'Lite, and another of my personal favourite burlesque performers, Amber Ray out of NYC.
Burlesque has been great lately. I work a lot. At least a show a week year round and two a week in the summer. I was named the #8 Burlesque performer in Canada in 2013 by http://21stcenturyburlesque.com/ ! That was pretty exciting! I didn't see it coming at all! I produce two monthly shows that are both doing well! I'd like to have more time to work on costumes and new choreography, but I have to work a day job, right? Maybe?
I'm still working at MAC cosmetics, but I'm moving to a new store that opens in April. I'm excited for a change in scenery and some new inspiration! The orientation week ends on April 4th... the first day of the Expo... and I'll probably be going in to the weekend tired from a long week. I just hope that it doesn't become a problem that I can't work that weekend. Both jobs are really important to me and I don't want to be bitter towards one job for making the other impossible for me.
Because of all of that I've been spending a lot of time lately trying to decide what is more important to me.... on one hand I have burlesque. Something that has changed me so much as a person and made me so much more confident in life. Something that makes me so happy every single time I hit the stage. .....And on the other hand I have MAC. I've wanted to be a makeup artist since I was a little kid, and could do it long term. I like the company and would love for this to be my career. ...but the scheduling sucks. It makes (life, burlesque, planning a trip with my boyfriend, getting my bills paid, having another part time job) a lot of things really difficult when I'm only getting part time hours. It's been suggested (by other members of the burlesque community) that I quit my day job and spend a year or two performing full time. And to be honest I would love to! I could perform more, travel more, spend more time costume making and selling costume pieces and accessories, get back in to teaching. I know that it isn't something that only young and pretty girls can do, but I also don't know that I'll do it forever. I might take a break to have kids, or maybe it becomes less popular and harder to get gigs. I guess what I'm trying to say is burlesque may have a shelf life, and being a makeup artist doesn't.
Now to decide what I want to do to make sure I'm happy and live my life to the fullest. I have a very hard time making decisions but I don't want to be somebody who looks back at their life and regrets not making them.
Well I'm off to get more work done!
Have a wonderful day!
