HISTORY
In 1969 Sid and Marty Krofft brought to our TV screens the world of H.R. Pufnstuf. There has always been rumours that the show's owners were influenced by drugs, but this has never been confirmed.
The Kroffts didn't stop with the TV show, they also had a theme park in Atlanta, Georgia (USA) called the World of Sid & Marty Krofft. It looked a strange and fun place to visit, but only lasted about a year before it took its last curtain call, which is a shame, as I'd love to visit it now.
Also not content with taking over the world with their limp burgers, McDonalds decided to "borrow" the H.R.Pufnstuf ideas and looks. They even had the same people who made the costumes for Puftnstuf make theirs, but they renamed the characters (Mayor McCheese, Grimace, Hamburglar etc.).
So where others fear to tread, the Krofft brothers took on the mighty McDonalds and won!
STORY
Jimmy has a Magic Golden Flute called Freddie, who is his friend and can talk. One day while out playing Jimmy comes across a talking boat, which doesn't seem to freak him out - maybe this is a regular occurrence? The boat asks him if he wants a ride and stupid Jimmy accepts.
But it seems that this is all part of an evil plan from an evil witch called 'Witchiepoo' (who really loves to hams things up). The Boat heads off to her home on Living Island, but Witchiepoo wants the flute badly and capsizes the boat, with the help of the weather and a monster.
Jimmy is washed ashore and is found by the Mayor of Living Island - H.R. Pufnstuf (a friendly talking dragon, with a Texas accent?). Jimmy can't believe his eyes and is helped to his feet by Cling and Clang, the Mayors helpers.
Living Island is a weird and wonderful place full of strange creatures. Jimmy thinks its a great place, but is home sick. Pufnstuf agrees to help Jimmy and Freddie go back home, but every time they try, they are thwarted by Witchiepoo and her bumbling helpers - Orson and Seymour.
Will Jimmy and Freddie ever escape...?
