First SG Hookup!
Yesterday...
6:30 AM - scrambled out of bed to get up to my little sister's house - she had a conference in Pasadena @ The Hilton about traumatized children (she is a shrink). 7:45 while sitting in Starbucks I realized I had forgotten my US power supply, and I was not going to be able to accomplish anything...promptly started ringing everyone I know, assuming most of them would still be up from the night before...and, although I was right, there seemed to be a certain adversity to leaving the house on most of their part. Rick Chen returned the call at 9, and we met for more coffee at another Starbucks and decided to work on the locks for the day. We met with a local Hot Topic buyer and set up a meeting next week with the corporate buyer. Whoo Whoo!
12:30 We headed from Hollywood down to Santa Monica to grab my power supply, and I got a call to meet with Dr. Parrott for lunch at the Ritz Carlton in Marina del Rey. We had a great lunch out on the terrace and talked for an hour and a half or so. We talked about some old friends, and he sang my mother's praises - and encouraged me to help her out putting together a program for seniors. It was bizarre to hear that my old schoolmates were ALL doctors, lawyers, and successful businessmen and I wondered what he would be telling Dr. Holly - faculty at UCLA med school and second generation neurosurgeon (and old classmate of mine) about me...::laughing, with a HUGE grin:: for some reason the romanticized notion of following your dreams and being an artist just returning from Europe seems - well, acceptable even to him. He seemed surprised I didn't get into the links, and ditched the debutante balls, had not rushed a fraternity, and generally lived an alternative lifestyle and that suited me just fine.
I met up with Rick again, and went to the Los Angeles mart in downtown to look at some of the showrooms and see if there was anyone we would be interested in working with for distribution.
I saw an ex standing by the mart elevators, we looked at each other, paused, smiled, and walked away without words.
Rick and I headed back to hollywood, and ended up at El Coyote for the usual ritual of holding court with cheap drinks and bad food on the patio in the sun. We ran into dark phiber, an OLD colleague and "security expert".
We spent a few hours chatting and headed up to the Arclight bar to meet some of the SG crew - the first SG hookup! Trilobyte and MacBastardwere great hosts and made us feel right at home...After a drink there we headed over to the Soulfly show @ The Roxy. Missed Janie and Robert in Little Tokyo, but will hopefully see them tonight @ 1000 corpses!
Went home early and prepped for today...
