Voice Post from my mobile phone... you know, a test...
I forgot... the whole reason I was going to rant was because I was going insane thinking about this website... I wrote an e-mail back this morning being all polite, but I was really irritated about the fact that everyone always wants to re-invent the wheel when a lot of people who are probably a whole lot smarter, or have at least spent a whole hell of a lot more time thinking about the issues have developed standards so that of people followed them things would be really fucking easy for everyone involved... you know what I mean...? here is some of the passive aggressive return mail... notice, I try to leave out my opinions so I don't sound like a pompous ass, and just include a few links that I know full well no one has the time or interest to bother reading... if they did, I wouldn't be so irritated and would probably still make websites, you know what I mean... probably not, but you can humour me and agree.

Look at the attachment.
The videos I was given last week are all uploaded to the xxx website already and here is the deal with them.
They are 480x360 pixels (see attachment) and deliverable via progressive download (they will play while the video is downloading)
The problems: video framerate, audio bit depth, and compression codecs
The frames per second rate is 29.97 (ntsc video standard)
Which could easily be cut in half and the audio is 44.1khz stereo (Bit rate = 44100 samples/s 16 bit/sample 2 channels = 1411.2 kbit/s (more than 10 MB per minute) which could also be cut in half. The codec used is Sorenson video 3 (the SVQ3 codec is a tweaked version of H.264)
Here is a little Apple propaganda:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/technologies/h264/
What concerned me was xxx's reel was over 306MB, far too "big"
We called xxx, and he informed me the videos were going to be compressed (again, which is not a good idea to compress video multiple times, sort of like making a copy of a tape, it degrades the quality) into flash files ( I think what he meant was they would be compressed with the On2 VP6 Codec)
Here is a link to Macromedia's propaganda re: streaming video:

With new and "better" possibilities available
Here is a blog "article discussing video codecs and MP4...

All of this is just FYI... I would like you to be able to make informed decisions as you move forward. If you have questions, ask me I am happy to help you. Here are the files you have (all 7 Gigabytes of them) go look for yourself, I personally think the load time is too long and the files choke, and am concerned you will end up paying the ISP because you are transferring too many GB/month if you keep them like this, but you could use them as is... If this is what you expected and wanted.
