i spent an hour of my friday night at the first hardcore show i have been to in the 21st century.

the band that my 18 year old brother drums for was playing a CD release party for some local band. a full bill of hardcore bands for $6.

first of all, when did hardcore become metal? why didn't i get a memo? i was straightedge (ha. ha.) during my freshman year of high school, and i don't remember the hardcore bands that i liked playing nothing but chunky metal riffs.

what's with the screaming? furthermore, it's girly screaming. there is nothing cool or masculine about it at all.

one breakdown is all a song needs. not three or four.

and what's with the dancing? 6 skinny kids in a heeeuuuuuuge open pit, dancing like they're trying to put a fire on their back out. they don't even collide with one another. it's like half a dozen self-contained, one-man mosh pits. and then they only dance for half a minute; they spend the rest of the song walking around the put with their arms at their sides, trying to look tough, but you know it's only so they can catch their breath.

i feel so old and out of touch.
