I got a 300 gig harddrive for christmas (my gifts are always early or late, because my folks don't know anything about me. . .the element of surprise is dead too. . . .but whatever)
we tried to install it, and now it doesn't recognize either one of them
this was on Thursday night
2 days later, it seems like it's a problem with the motherboard.
this is because I listened when dad said "you should get an internal instead, it's less messy" (he's obsessed with aesthetic) and I actually listened, found that they tend to offer more space, and cheaper, then assumed it'd be as simple to install as the DVD-RW drive I installed before, or the video card I installed years back. . .or the sound card I installed years back). Dell aren't helping much either, I've had to call 3 times to get much of an answer (just like with Compaq. . .they've truly jumped the shark).
so, they're gonna call me back today and I'm gonna tell them what I tried and why I think it's the motherboard, and hopefully they send someone to install it (I am not installing anything into my computer ever fucking again).
so, my holiday is gonna suck ass.
Obviously I'm posting this from dad's computer, because they're out right now.
You won't be hearing from me until MY computer works.
Have a better holiday than I'm going to, and please pray that my crush at work gets hit by a drunk driver.
thanks
g'bye

my question is does the bios see it but windows dont?..
if thats the case all HD's come unpartitiond..
meening it will be there.. windows will "see" that the drive is there but wont see that theres any space on it so it wont show up under my computer..
most HD's will come with a disk to format and partition the drive.. but I prefer to use partition magic..
another thing is how manny IDE/SATA controlers do you have on your mobo.. Cuz if its on a secondary device (IDE2 or 3) that could be a problem.. windows does not recognize most secondary controlers..
so your first 2 IDE channels (0,1) will work fine but anything on channel 2 or 3 aswell as any SATA devices may not be seen..
may have just confused the crap out of you but If you have any questions just ask, and ill try to help you out
