...it's that season again and i have some serious driving to do soon.
3 days until i hit the road at 6:30am and drive for an hour and a half to the only mechanics i trust.
15 days since i saw Mike Dillon's Go-Go Jungle.
13 days until i see Mike D again, this time playing with Les Claypool. Equally excited to see Secret Chiefs 3 and Devotchka again when they open up that show.
17 days until the next pilgrimage to New Orleans.
Rob and I are going to Sarah's wedding. We procrastinated on the rooms that she'd blocked for the out-of-town crew and when I made the reservations today, I ended up agreeing to pay more than the blocked rate, and way more than I wanted to pay. Normally, I don't have to pay--it's either stay in a car or at Sarah's house--that's how much I wanted to pay, but given the circumstances, kind of out of the question. Then I was looking on expedia.com and found a shitty, half-star rated hotel on Canal street. I'm pretty sure the room will be nothing more than a place to pass out, change our socks and take a shit, and considering that, who really needs anything better than a $35 room? I want to stay at the nice hotel for the first night being that it's right on the St. Charles streetcar line, which will take us straight to and from City Park, where the wedding will be. That's gonna be some crazy fun--it always is, hanging out with Sarah and her friends. Then we have three more days in the city and I see us checking out of the nice hotel after the first night and transferring.
39 days until the 1200 miles-in-a-day road trip to Denver to see Faun Fables open for Sleepytime Gorilla Museum.
I've driven to the same venue once before to see Faun Fables. It went like this: up at 5:30, worked till noon, drove the 8-hour stretch of I-70, watched the show and then hung out with the band for a couple hours. They recognized how ridiculous it was for me to drive all the way back that night for the sake of not missing work the next day, so they gave me their hotel reservation that the Oriental Theater had booked for them. I failed to find it (Denver's crazier than I'd expected at 4am), got lost, finally found an I-70 sign and drove back...totally worth it. Made that trip alone, but this time I've been bugging people to go with me.
So far, the only traditional thing missing from the plans is Illinois, but it's early.
