most people don't think about whence, but its a noble word.
highly unknown, increasingly less used and obscure it plods onward.
it takes on the duty of two completely different words and becomes a symbol.
the vast majority of times i've heard it used, it was used incorrectly in one of two ways:
the most common way is when people say 'from whence', which is redundant.
the word means 'from where'.
then there are the people who think it means 'when', usually when talking about less recent events.
just a thought.
