busy busy
in the last couple of weeks i've completely lost myself;
just along for the ride in the body.
been drenched a bicycle/rain combo that was a lot of refreshing, childlike fun.
truly good clean fun. didn't even need to shower afterwards
got the brand new Sleepytime Gorilla Museum CD.
got a DVD titled "My Grandmother", a 1929 silent russian slapstick that was banned for 40 years. It's considered a masterpiece, but i bought it because it features Beth Custer's ensemble of musicians doing a live score for the film. She was commissioned to do this and still tours around performing a wonderful live score. Nils Frykdahl from Sleepytime does the English narration, and yeah, that was a big seller for me. Unfortunately, the DVD won't let me turn the narration on, so i'm more than a little disappointed at that.
I was interested to find out that the bass player for the Beth Custer Esemble on this DVD is Todd Sickafoose, who i met and then hauled his upright-bass-in-a-flight-case across lawrence when he played with Mike Dillon in Malachy Papers last october maybe..whenever Ani Difranco was there.. they were her back up band.
Last night i drove myself and crazy craig to Manhattan, KS to see my buddies' band,
GCDC play. I'd never been to Aggieville, and well, it wasn't worth the two hour drive, but it was a cool bar (Auntie Mae's i think), and it was a fun show.
Today i went with an older dude i know to T-Bone stadium and took part in KY 99.7's record-breaking guitar event. I believe it was 1684 people that showed up with their guitars to set the new Guinness World Record for largest number of guitarists playing the same song simultaneously(?) Everyone was lined up in the outfield with their axes wearing the same KY shirt, the announcer joked that 'we'll drink kool-aid after the song'...it was a lot of fun, and not nearly as much of a cacophanous clusterfuck as i'd expected. It was "Smoke On The Water", and soon they'll have a montage video on the kyys website and i am certain to be in it and noticeable due to the ridiculous hat i was wearing. Also, a man from the station interviewed me, audio only, which will be aired probably on the air...it had to do with me being a 'representative of the north olathe amish community'. Amazing the bullshit that falls out of my mouth sometimes, and especially when there's a microphone.
Maybe i'll get some of the alone time i've been craving next weekend.
i just want to be left alone with nothing to do.
christ.

Alone time is always a nice balance. It doesn't seem like too long ago when it felt like the only option. Enjoy these final weeks of yours amongst a higher population of people and friends.
I'll be happy to visit and keep you company...and see "My Grandmother." I hope the narration can be fixed. Oh well. Enjoy it anyways and maybe add your own Nils impression of a narration.
distractions.
Oh, and strangely, the english narration by nils works now.
huh.
thats good.
