so i slept for four hours.
and then i worked for four hours.
and then i came home and showered,
grabbed a few essential items
and my fedora
and hit the road to denver.
8 hours and one time zone change later
i was at the Oriental Theater two hours early.
Dawn and Nils were touched at my effort to see them;
like old friends reuniting.
their concert, more like a musical stage production, was unbelievable--worth the drive. they're so good.
i hung out with them for a couple hours after the show, just talking, taking each other in.
they showed me around their new-to-them tour vehicle, a small, old winnebago.
they gave me a loaf of banana bread that they made on the road.
maybe i'm biased, but i thought it was delicious.
i love these people.
i gave them two of my cds.
they were worried about me driving all the way back that night so they offered me the hotel rooms that Oriental Theater had reserved for them. I promised them that i'd go there and nap before driving back. i tried to find it. i never saw the marriott, but according to the mapquest directions, i'd obviously driven right past it. attempting to make another pass in the unfamiliar denver maze of one way streets, i ended up horribly lost. eventually i found an I-70 sign and took it. it was after 4am at this point.
by the time i got to salina, i was going cross-eyed and fading fast, shaking my head and slapping my ribs to stay awake. the four red bulls weren't working and i was a mess, but i was too close to home to stop.
without enough money to drive the entire turnpike, i exited in lawrence with the 70 cents i'd scraped up.
finally made it home about 12:30.
slept for two hours.
went back to work.
may is crazy.
in other news..holding back..trying to keep from falling all the way. coulda guessed this would happen, she's a million miles away.
