traveling alone in a foreign land
finding the common thread
that links the amazing and familiar,
recognizing the eyes of like minds,
an incredible chain of events
too good to be not true.
Went to germany, stayed a few days with my good friend Lindsay, her husband and daughter.
We skied the Alps in Garmisch--skiing, like riding a bike, even after 14 years, comes right back to you. Only bailed thrice, one was rather spectacular. We stayed at a hotel that by chance, i had stayed at 13 years ago. Had to ride a gondola to reach it, and behind it, there is a gorge that can be hiked. Last time i was there was in summer...its like an ice castle in winter...
>Spur of the moment, train to Amsterdam by myself with no clue where to go once i got there, just knowing that everything would be fine.
Sure enough, within an hour, sitting in a coffeeshop, way too high and paranoid, i asked a girl about the laws and if she knew of shelter.
Led me to her hostel and for the next four days i toured the city with Andrea from Sydney via South America via Montreal...
Everyone i met was a representative of kindness and honest intentions. Some, i swore i knew, recognized on a certain level about which i won't speculate.
Four days in a hostel, nightly congregations at the bar, and these people become family.
Travelers.
I will return.
Looks like the only real freedom this land offers
is the freedom to move away and do more than just pursue happiness.
