apparently if everything on this planet was represented in binary, the number would be (10 to the 640 power) digits long.
also, in processing info, our brains do 10 terraflops per second.
to put that into perspective,
the new apple G5 does (i think) around 3 gigaflops per second.
so, if according to moore's law, processor power will double every 15 months, that means that in the not so distant future, we will have a computer that will be as powerful as the human brain.

ya, ray kurzweil's site is a good resource for information like that. if i recall correctly, his estimates are that the year 2012 will give a computer equaling the raw operational power of a human mind.. and at the same rate 2018 will give us a computer that is capable of all human minds put together.
