I feel like I've reached the end of the internet. Maybe that's a sign I should go outside or read a book or something. Any suggestions of free things to do when you live in Toronto? Much emphasis on *free*.
oxy:
what is this outside you talk about?

Just twirl in a circle into the feeling goes away.

Tomorrow's the Canadian federal election. Recent polls indicate that the NDP has a decent chance of forming the official opposition to Harper's minority, or of even getting a minority themselves. Holy fucking shitballs! I am so nervous/ excited, I just have no words. All night I dreamt of the election, to the point where I honestly thought I was going to wake up to Monday...

Update: So, today I popped by Staples downtown and it looks like I'll be working for them at least part-time. That's a bit of a relief. Also, I fixed someone's computer today, so that's a small bit of extra money. And I got a call from Elections Canada. I'm going to be working on election day as a polling clerk.

In the meantime, bills are...

I started a computer repair business when i started school. The idea was to make money while being able to keep my schedule flexible. By the end of it, i was struggling completely to keep school in the schedule. I had gone from doing virus removal and simple repairs to developing and designing server/workstations for small businesses.

I was working on a friend's/customer's computer when i yanked out my netbook to download some programs and i said under my breath "jesus this netbook is running like shit"

To which he snapped "That's comforting, you can't even keep your computer running right"

and i snapped back with "Shit yea dude! i work on computers every-effin-day, when i get time to myself that last thing i want to do is whip out my junk and start working on it, no profit in working on my own computers!"

The entire time i ran that business, my computers all went to shit.....i never worked on them.

oh no doubt.

With the imminent fear of being laid off i have started taking on side jobs again, just to hoard cash in case that happens.

For the last three days i have been writing html and css code by hand because i don't want to dish out the $200 for dreamweaver.

if i type <a href="idon'tgiveashit.aboutyourdamnwesbite.com><img src="ihateyou.jpg></a> one more time into Notepad++ my head may explode.

And i made the mistake of fixing one tattoo machine power supply for my friend, and now i have six stacked up beside me waiting to be troubleshot.

Looking for some financial advice from my intelligent friends. So, I'm not sure when I'll be starting work (my recruiter said the HR person in charge of next week's gig is off and so we'll find out about that Monday and prob start Tuesday), and I'm shitting myself about paying this first month's bills.

Any advice on filling short-term gaps in income? I've still got...

I always seem to be back there.
My tirck is to ust to cut rate freelance IT work. Usually for residential clients. Things like virus clean ups, system tuning, wireless configuration etc and so on. Hanging your shingle up on Kijiji and Craigslist works. Plus flyering in your neighbourhood. You'll have to undercut the legit shops in town enough to make it attractive to the user. In your area with all the small shop competition that would be $35-$30 per issue. But in the burbs of MIssissauga, or Etobicoke you could pull $50 an issue.

Best of luck to you!!! I feel so bad because I know how shitty is to feel money slowly drain away and to be just clutching on trying to hold out for that new money to come back in!! We've sold furniture, cashed in my retirement fund, maxed out our credit cards (which are thankfully not that big) and budgeted the hell out of each month to prevent extra spending.

Keep your hope up!!

I've got a job interview today for a network admin role, and it looks like I also have an opportunity for a desktop support role that would start Monday if I don't get the first job. Things are coming up Milhouse. smile

4....

4 days left until Smurph gets back and helps me pack up the cats to move back to Toronto on March 30th.

I passed my Network+ exam (thanks for the well-wishes and advice!) BUT... now I have my Security+ exam booked for March 31st, which is only 10 days away.

Eep! About the next exam, Smurph coming home, and moving again... just everything. EEP!

10....

The official countdown has begun. Just 10 days until Smurph gets back and helps me pack up the cats to move back to Toronto on March 30th.

As for the more immediate future, I have my Network+ exam on Wednesday at 11am. I'm giving myself half an hour, starting now, to get my shit together and get down to cramming in earnest.

Any study...

Good luck on your exam Weds. I'd say to change your environment when studying, about every hour or so, but not too drastically. Just go from room to room, or a place conductive to studying that you haven't been for awhile. Keep mixing it up. smile

So, today I was let go of my job. surreal

I was called into the office manager's office, where the big wig's from head office were on conference call. They said they weren't going to be extending my contract and were "looking into other options" and that I was done effective today.

So I'm unemployed. A little over a week earlier than what I'd expected.

I...
