ok computer guys, i need your help
i got a new hard drive. and it was running etc.. and then the computer shut off again.
sooo..... this leads me to believe it could be something else also
what, though, i have no idea. it could be over heating? and shutting off? or the motherboard? but i really have no idea.
before it was running really slow, freezing, shutting off with an error screen about stacking or something, and rebooting only to freeze halfway through and going through the error message and reboot again and again.
when i would leave it off for a long time it would run for a little bit. but eventually do the above.
so i got a new hard drive, it was installing windows and shut off. no error message or anything. i turned it back on and its been on for a while and okay. windows is almost fully installed now. im thinking it could be a combination of hard drive and over heating? i had purchased one of those usb powered fans that sits under my computer, but the power on it died so it doesnt work anymore. i guess a new one would be a good idea, or a new internal fan. i dunno.
but either way the computer isnt under warranty so its all on me

bigchill2k:
It could be the power supply, those have internal fans and can overheat as well. Also, depending on how old the computer is - power supplies sometimes putter out after years of use. If it is the power supply you can get one of those for around $60

is it a laptop or desk top and what model is it? my old dell laptop was overheating but it would give me an error message telling me that it was overheating.
