I had a scare last night. I was signed on Skype around midnight and I got a video call request from my dad. He asked if I had been on Face Book much lately and I said not too much. He said someone posted something and he wanted to make sure he talked to me about it. I immediately got scared because in the last month my uncle who was in his 80's passed away and just before that my aunt, the same uncle's younger sister, thought she was having a heart attack and went to the hospital and needed emergency gall bladder surgery. She wasn't well enough to go to her brother's funeral. I found out about both of these via Face Book posts from my family.
My dad said my grandpa had a heart attack. Luckily he got himself to the hospital and had to have surgery to have stints put in to reopen his arteries and if he'd waited another hour to go in he wouldn't have made it. Apparently he thought he was just having heartburn until he made the mental connection that his left arm felt odd too. My grandpa lives alone and decided to drive himself to the ER because he's so damn stubborn. My dad said it was a major heart attack and he's lost 70% of his heart function and it won't come back so my grandpa will have to be really careful with what he eats and drinks. Apparently they even had to shock him a few times during surgery to get his heart going again. It's really surprising because he'll be 85 this week but he's always been really healthy. He goes for regular walks and always gets his health tests when he's supposed to. My dad is really confused because my grandpa had his heart checked in the last few years and the doctor said it was in great shape. I'm glad he's ok but I always worry because of his age.
