It's been insane since last Thursday. Evenings and days spent packing and trying to remember everything that needed to be taken care of, while having to deal with my crazy job at the same time. Finally managed to move out of the fucking Tower Of Doom on Sunday, thus avoiding to pay them $100 extra for one day... haha up yours, wankers!!
Since then, been unpacking (a lot), drinking (a lot), and exploring the new surroundings (a lot). I've been at my new address for 4 days and I absolutely love it. Everything's at walking distance and there are so many cool restaurants, pubs, wine bars and delis that I want to try... it's just so excellent. Feels like I can find quality French wine everywhere nearby
It seems like we will finally be able to scratch off that miserable, miserable year in between October 2006 and October 2007 and start enjoying ourselves in this town... at long last. With this new flat, I save $400 a month on rent... So even if god knows how long it will take for N to find a decent job, we can actually somewhat have our lives back now.
In 2 weeks, we'll grab some long-needed furniture. This could have happened a long time ago if I could get a credit card, but hey, I'm just a "legal alien" with a flawless UK credit history that nobody gives a shit about and an inexistent US credit history for obvious reasons... so maybe I'll be able to get a credit card in 5 years I'm positive about this, thinking that at least I don't have 1 cent of debt. I owe nothing to anybody, and not so many people can say that.
Through all this, I've totally isolated myself because I don't think everybody needs to/wants to hear/read constant rants about money problems and other shitty situations. It's going to be weird when I finally make it again to a SG meet. One thing is certain: I miss the stupid fun, and most importantly, being social with the crazy Chi-Town kids.
I hope you're doing good. I'm trying to get back into this "being social" thing so bear with me if it is only slowly taking off
