A Major UPdate!
+ R.I.P. Peter Jennings -- one of the last greats this planet had and one intelligent man. We'll miss you and more than ever we need you. Let's try to ressurect the man!
+ Saturday got to see some really solid art, luckily on the last days for many of the various galleries. Spike Gallery ended a show of large-scale portraitures from Farrar Hood which reminded me of a modern Phil Pearlstein -- good, solid figure work and great colors!
Bit Form Gallery had a mind-blowing exhibition by James Paterson who first hand-draws some really fantastic imagery then runs it through some scripts he wrote to do some fucked up stuff to the drawings. There's a ton of examples on his website that'll give you an idea on what the show was like. I spent a long, long time just watching the show!
+ Recommended viewing: Steamboy and especially Battlestar Galactica: The miniseries. Both were far better than what I thought!
+ Wednesday at Fuse gallery is an opening by DEVO frontman and king Spud Mark Mothersbaugh. Not only is he a well-known musician (and mastermind behind many of Nickelodeon's hit cartoon theme songs) but also a very established painter. Free booze!
Today I went in for a taping of the new Rachel Ray Food Network TV show called Day by Day with Rachel Ray. Got there and was surrounded by many hot ladies...and nearly all of 'em were single! The theme of the show was singles in NYC, so it was (or should have been) easy pickins. Or at least if any of 'em were into average-looking Greek artists.
The show itself was great fun -- Ray has a natural energy that everyone got into and the crew was really solid. Everyone had a fun time and even though the taping went on for nearly 4 hours (with no food, water or bathroom breaks) the time went by. There were a few guests who were relationship experts and one guest was Candice Bushnell the author of Sex and the City. Very interesting! All gave good advice that I took to heart -- but whether or not I actually follow it is left to be seen!
After that I headed down to Hummus Place for the best Hummus (yes...even topping mine) that I've ever had! $4.50 got me two GIANT pitas, this monster bowl of hummus, hot sauce, pickles / onions / olives and peppers. Bam!
Followed that with a giant Chocolate Peanut Butter Malted Milkshake from the New York Milkshake Company which was damn fine...but I still think Mary's Dairy was better.
PHEW! wotta packed past few days. Time to kick it with Method Man....
