Did anyone go to the crazy Snapple event in Union Square? Supposedly they had made the world's largest popsicle but didn't think about it being hot and sunny...so it melted all over union square! People were slipping and falling in the stuff -- wotta mess. They were handing out free bottles of Snapple and also samples of their new frozen treats -- which were actually very low cal, surprisingly!
News? Not much else! Managed to hear a few "new" bands that people talk about but I haven't gotten into the whole "new band" scene.
Touch & Go streaming albums
Remember a time when music wasn't all wussy? Touch & Go, back in the late 80's / early 90's was a font of excellent bands...but over the years the aging owners seemed to have become a bit soft in the ear and lost the taste for things that were different or made your blood pump.
After visiting their streaming audio page I was able to figure out bands that were best left off my playlist...such as !!!. Not impressed and I'll stick with New Order.
Really, out of that list, the only one that really took me by surprise was TV on the Radio. Solid sound, soulful and sorta experimental. And...a bit dark / gritty. Reminds me of this one bar I use to frequent back in the area.
Hmm...some sorta Mermaid Festival at Coney Island this weekend...might check that out if motivated enough for the near hour long haul. If anyone else is going let me know
