man, it has been a while since I've updated but haven't been in the mood. While it's been nice out...the blahs have set in and I've questioned many times why I bothered moving out here.
Movies to avoid: Darkness. Anything that Brian Yuzna touches is pretty bad but this is terrible. I made it through 1/2 hour of it and put it back into the NetFlix envelope. Save yourself the hassle and skip it!
Movies to see: If by now you haven't watched any of the Lord of the Rings trilogy then what are you waiting on? For my birthday I got the super extended DVD box set -- each movie has at least an additional 1/2 hour or more of material that was originally cut....but now restored! I think the shortest film was just under 4 hour The stuff that was cut turned out to really help round out the story in many parts...and for people who can't sit still for that long, they busted the movies into 2 discs so you can take an intermission if so desired.
Why you should get to know me: Since Thursday it's been cook, cook, cook. Friday I took in a Cranberry-orange coffeecake to work, for the hell of it. The recipe is a no-brainer and can be made by anyone without fail. I hit this great Indian spice shop and picked up a few things, which then led into the Saturday Morning Cooking fun! A bit of Spiced Cranberry sorbet to start the day and then I finally tried my hand at making Anko or Sweet Azuki Bean Paste. This is one of my favorite desserts -- especially in AnPan. I asked a guy I work with who's Chinese to get the recipe from his folks. The Chinese Sweet Bean Paste and Japanese tends to be about the same. His folks said that the recipe was too involved and not worth doing at home. I have a hard head and when someone says anything like that then it spurs me on! I remembered that I had a book by the great Hiroko Shimbo called The Japanese Kitchen...which happened to have a very traditional recipe for Anko!
The process wasn't that involved and after a few hours I had made a huge batch of Anko -- for about $1 . If you've ever looked in the store, something like 2-4 oz is around $5 or more. Tonight I'll put that to use and make Goma-anko Manju which is Steamed Dumplings with Sweet Bean Paste and Sesame Seeds.
nearly forgot -- Saturday night was a light supper -- a Smoked Mozzarella and Fresh Corn Frittata that turned out quite stellar. I think next time I'll try an Asparagus and Chevre Frittata.
+ out of curiosity, what's the longest time you've been single?
+ went without sex?
