man...wotta night!
Yesterday turned out to be an odd day -- mostly good and ended great! So dig this. I finished up at the gym and was getting ready to leave when this guy (whom I've seen around in the past) made small talk about the shitty house music / low-end rap they always play. Being in a chatty mood I actually talked with him. Made mention that I just moved from Indiana and he paused and then said he was born in Gary (which is pretty much next door to where I lived / grew up). The more we talked it turned out the more we had in common -- especially on the art end. Woo hoo! Business connection! He said that the company he owns needs an illustrator to do some drawings for a restoration they are doing. His business is restoring stained glass -- high-end shit like Tiffany glass and the stuff you see in old churches.
Later that afternoon, this headhunter I deal with called and asked if I was free for a weekend gig, but had to turn that one down due to prior engagements.
The person at work who stabbed me in the back a month ago is back to thinking that she's a "designer" even though she doesn't know jack shit about design (degree in marketing, no art skills what so ever). I saw the banner she was designing and laughed my ass off. I know that I'll end up having to redo it and make it all nice-nice but fuck that. She's on her own
Split work and ran into the owner of Toy Tokyo...chatted him up for a bit before hanging out with their main business dude Seth. Everyone who works at TT is way cool and very non-nerdy. Some might show up at the Toga Party, which will be cool. Anyway we head over to the Lit Lounge and proceeded to get P-L-O-W-E-D. Everything was 1/2 off, then the bartender was pouring us free drinks Right on! Stumbled from their to Seth's house and drank more, smoked some of that wacky tabackee and watched the Yankees (wotta joke). Finished the night with a drunken run to Oasis for falafel, hummus and zatar!
On the art tip:
Deitch Project / Gallery is having a huge show for Barry McGee, aka Twist. He's one of the best bombers I've seen in many years -- a very unique style he honed on the city walls before hittin' the gallery scene.
The show opens tonight and runs for a few months. Everyone should go! Maybe we need an SG gallery crawl...with egghead commentary by myself

Side note: I don't make much mention of the photo sets, but man, Elsie is very cute and Ondine's shoes were off-the-hook! I prefer my paddle, though
