T-minus 6 hours until I head for the airport and try to catch an early flight outta the city! While I like it here, especially now that I have a job I like...I also want to get the hell out of the city! It's been 8 months since I had any form of vacation / time off and frankly I need it.
Odd things have been happening as of late. Within the last month or so I've had not one, not two but three ex-girlfriends come out of the past and want to make nice-nice with me. Also had an ex / friend who I haven't talked with in something like 6 years call me out of the blue! Very strange stuff but I'm in a la-de-da mood and I'm letting things happen as they happen.
Movie Recommendations:
Inside Man = Turned out to be much better than what I thought and had some good surprises / twists that kept even my attention to the end of the film. You'd never know that it was a Spike Lee film, though. A bit slick, but one of my favorite parts was his clever commentary about violence in videogames.
Dave Chapelle's Block Party -- so I heard the soundtrack way before seeing the film. I didn't realize that the event took place the same summer I moved out here and now looking back on it I had a chance to get it but blew it off. Mor-ON! Anyway, the film is a documentary that follows how the block party came about and also some electrifying concert video. I never put too much thought into Kanye West, but damn, he was ripping it up right and left! Common made some appearances but not enough for me. Jill Scott...woo damn...that girl can sing! If you watch it, make sure to check out the version with added scenes -- you get to see the full song rather than bits and pieces.
New Music:
Blood Mountain - Mastadon = I downloaded this a few weeks ago and it's been in heavy rotation! Damn fine album that just shows these guys were not one-trick musicians. Welcome back hard rock!
In the Absence of Truth - Isis = Do I really need to say anything about Isis or how freakin' amazing this album is? Thank God for the Internet and Easynews...got this a few months before it hits the shelves Pick it up!
The Shining - J Dilla = Sure, Donuts was a masterpiece but most of the tracks were under 3 minutes and you'd just start to get a groove then the next cut would come up. The Shining has a bit more cohesion. This was finished after Dilla died earlier this year but keeps a good flow going. The only stutter on the whole album is the unfortunate opening track...a true piece-of-shit from Busta Rhymes that shows he really is a hack and even with a good producer behind him he can't produce. This album, though, is so well worth picking up just for the Common / D'Angelo track. If that one song don't get you action, ain't nuthin' will!
love ya'll

One more day -- less than 48 hours. I'm getting ready by listening to nothing but Mastodon and Converge on my iPod.
