Last night was a pretty solid show at the Bowery Ballroom:
Nebula
The Datsuns
The Hellacopters
This was the first time for me at the Ballroom and it wasn't that bad of a joint. One thing I have to say is how clean all of the places have been in NYC -- most of the joints I saw shows at in Chicago were dumps, so it's been refreshing to say the least. I have to laugh when people describe them as "dives". Love to take 'em to some of the scuzzy bars I've been to and see what they think...
Anyway, overall the show was solid. Nebula...shit, those guys nearly stole the show! After seeing them live I think I became more of a fan...they did stooges and david bowie (Ziggie Stardust) covers that freakin' rocked! Sufferage City...alright
Next up was The Datsuns -- who I've never heard before and probably won't go out of my way to hear again. They were...okay. The crowd got into 'em but I found their sound to be a mish-mash of existing bands. One (or more) songs were very Von Bondies-ish, while another would sound like a similar "Detroit Rock Band".
They did have their rock-god poses down pat, though. I wonder if their practice studio has mirrors around so they all can see how they look.
The Hellacopters...damn, awesome rawk n' roll! Very polished but you could tell that they weren't just going through the moves -- not only were the people enjoying the show, but so were they. The set covered a wide range of material, but a bit heavy on the new stuff. One of the best things they did...happened to be a cover of MC5's "Kick out the Jams" -- BLISTERING!
Overall a fantastic show and well worth the $15! Next up...The Gathering...
PS: Single now again. Wednesday was the "get treated out and let go" night.
