It's Chinese New Year!
The year of the dog kicked off with a whimper down in Chinatown yesterday -- I was kind of surprised at how lame the Flower Market was. There were almost no flowers...and the few that were ended up being silk! Yeesh.
Got into the MOMA, though, for a closed exhibit last night thanks to the sorta girlfriend. Or whatever she might be. That was the first time I had been in the MOMA, which wasn't all that bad. It was family night -- so most everone made a beeline for the food, then the Pixar exhibition. I headed up to the current drawing show and got to see a ton of great pieces by some artists I've always admired. The Pixar show, though, was quite spectacular. I'm a GIANT fan of the pre-production work, such as character studies, tests, color schemes, etc. that shows the evolution of what will become the final product. For me, that's where the real creative juice is since place like Pixar and Disney give the artists a basic start then let them go hog wild with their imagination. Very cool!
I made a bunch of Greek / Middle Eastern food for dinner and we ate ourselves stupid, drank a bunch and then watched various Ninja Tune videos...so a good end to the night.
Coming up...Toy Fair and the giant New York Comicon! I'm curious to see how the East Coast handles a real comicon (it's their first). I've been going to the big one in Chicago for...20 years? Yow...nerd alert! At least I haven't broken down and dressed up like a character.
