i've been absent for a little while now. last few weeks have been kind of all over the place. i was out of town again for about a week hanging out with the nephew, doing godfather stuff at the baptism. he's still quite an amazing little guy. just look at this little dude.
awesome.
looks like i've missed quite a lot on here, lots of journals to get caught up on. i'll get to that when i finish this little masterpiece up. i got a good amount of positive feedback from my last blog, everyone seemed to get a kick out of the pictures. good to hear, i'll try to stick to that theme more often.
so what's been on my mind since my last update? i was really bummed when i heard about Rick Wright dying. Pink Floyd has been easily my favorite band of all time, and his sound and contribution to their sound was mind numbingly beautiful. some of my favorite Floyd pieces have that giant organ sound that just bounces of the insides of your skull. i've been listening to a lot of Dark Side and Wish You Were Here since hearing the news. and i realized that i no longer have a copy of Meddle anywhere. don't know how that happened.
click if you're interested, long harsh political rambling and Palin hating to follow
SPOILERS! (Click to view)the hurricane mess in Texas was a spooky reminder of Katrina and that whole fuck up. also kind of a pleasant reminder of how close we are to being rid of dipshit in the white house. politics?! so i watched both conventions with a lot of interest. first time in my life for that. megan and i sat silent and listened to Obama's acceptance speech and were both totally floored. i've never been interested a lot in politics, and i've certainly never been moved and inspired by a speech before. i thought his speech was amazing and was quite frankly damn happy to witness it. then we together watched in horror as the Republican Convention started and the fucking crazies came out in their finest hats and buttons.
i'm going to start a whole new paragraph for this Sarah Palin. when it all comes down to it, i kind of feel sorry for the woman. at her unveiling right down the road in Dayton, it seemed to take me all of about 10 minutes to figure out her role in the election and the reason for her choice. and it's a shame that she's nothing more than a pawn in a ridiculous election game. i realize that's what it always comes to, but the parading around she's doing is disgusting, just as disgusting as the wide eyed hope and optimism of those cheering zombies at the convention that they kept cutting to during her speech. all these people, who 2 weeks earlier had never heard of her, now all the sudden thinking she's the greatest thing to come along and the answer to all their prayers.
the shit of it all is that the plan could probably work. all those swing state voters and Hillary devotees with this exciting, pretty new toy to look at and lust for. my hope is that the whole thing backfires and blows up in the GOP's face and is remembered as a giant failure. but i can't help but worry the the better part of the voting public will fall right into the trap.
i'm supposed to believe that this is the best the Republican party can come up with, that Palin was the clear cut choice after considering all the candidates. i'm in awe of the balls it takes to come out and say, "hey America, you want a woman in office? you want groundbreaking change and forward thinking? have a look at this piece of ass! see everyone, we Republicans are fucking cool. you thought the black guy was something else?! look who we're giving to you. lap it up America!"
and the amount of people buying into it is so discouraging. so discouraging that the people believing it are the people who actually vote! don't be fooled. she's no good. she's no good for the country. she has no business even being in the picture. it's maddening. i'm terrified the Democrats are going to blow it and i'm going to have to find a way to move to Canada.
i got the new Rolling Stone today and there is a great article about her and just fucking nails it. i'm copying this word for word and it sums up my feelings perfectly. the article is written by Matt Taibbi. Sarah Palin is a symbol of everything that is wrong with the modern United States. As a representative of our political system, she's a new low in reptilian villainy, the ultimate cynical masterwork of puppeteers like Karl Rove. But more than that, she is a horrifying symbol of how little we ask for in return for the total surrender of our political power. Not only is Sarah Palin a fraud, she's the tawdriest, most half-assed fraud imaginable, 20 floors below the lowest common denominator, a character too dumb even for daytime TV - and this county is going to eat her up, cheering her every step of the way. All because most Americans no longer have the energy to do anything but lie back and allow ourselves to be jacked off by the calculating thieves who run this grasping consumer paradise we call a nation.
2 things and then no more politics. 1. i really like Matt Taibbi. and 2. i've never been interested in politics or been hopeful for the possible change that a candidate could bring. i'm excited by the fact that i currently am. you've got to hit rock bottom before you can make a change. i'm pretty comfortable thinking the US is so close to that bottom that we can only get better from this point on.
good god, if you read through that good for you. and thanks. moving on to brighter things, a list and then some pics.
