some rambles on music
i'm getting really upset with the concert scene in the greater Cleveland area. i realize it's the slow time of the year and everyone is gearing up for spring/summer tours. but come on, i'd like to see at least one show that sparks my interest. it got so bad, the other day i considered getting tickets to the kid rock/rev. run tour. that's honestly the only thing that caught my eye in the past few months. it only took about 10 seconds to talk myself out of that one.
i jut picked up the new Raconteurs album. absolutely fantastic stuff. a bit heavier and wackier than the last one. it made my realize how much i really like Jack White. I love listening to him play and destroy the guitar. i'm hoping for a concert from them around these parts in the near future.
there are some albums coming out this summer that i'm looking forward to. new stuff from The Roots, My Morning Jacket, Weezer mixed with the before mentioned Raconteurs and new Gnarls Barkley. i love when a bunch of new music comes out that i can't wait to hear. it seems so rare anymore. and how about Nas naming his new album "nigger!" won't find that one at walmart.
i used to think that i was really up to date with things in the music world. like i had great understanding of what was out there, what was good and popular, what mattered and what was shit. i realize that the music industry is kind of in the shitter these days and albums are fastly becoming a thing of the past. however, i realize how out of touch i am with all things music every two weeks when the new rolling stone shows up at my doorstep. the last thing i read in that mag every time is the last page where they list the current top 40 albums, billboard top 10, itunes top ten and all that shit. when i read this i realize i have no idea about music anymore or any interest for that matter. take this for instance. from the april 17th rolling stone:
top 40 albums
1 album i'd consider buying
7 artists i don't even recognize
NOW 26, 27, and NOW that's what i call the 80's. Radio Disney Jams 10 and Kidz Bop Kids. 2 Hannah Montana albums and one Jonas Brothers album. and 5 shitty movie soundtracks.
billboard top ten
i've heard of 3 of these songs and only one i can make it to the end of.
itunes top ten tracks
almost the same list as the billboard top ten just in a different order, and minus the one song that i can stomach.
music will probably always be one of the most important things in my life. it's what gets me up in the morning and puts me to sleep each night. i think only megan puts a bigger smile on my face. and to tie the two together; one of my favorite fantasies lately has been me and megan getting a house somewhere, me learning to play bass and buying her a drum set. the two of us will become the greatest rhythm section in all the land. that thought has been bringing me so much happiness lately. i've really been wanting to buy a bass lately. i'd love to learn to play.
