The White Stripes, House of Blues, Atlantic City, NJ 9/28/05
I ended up treating Penny and K to the tickets as a belated/early b-day presents. What I didn't count on was having to pay for tolls, gas, and parking too! LOL! At least I didn't have to drive. Got there a little before 9 and the line to get in was huge! Some kid Penny knew let us cut in but we were still pretty far back. Cripes, Security was way tighter than the Borgota. Handheld metal detectors and pat downs. Was surprised they let Penny bring in his bottle of water though.
When we got inside it was already pretty packed up near the front. The opening act was already playing. M. Ward. Never heard of him but I was pretty impressed. Plays almost similar material to TWS. Has that retro feel. Yeah, we had general admission tickets so we were right on the floor. Supposedly this is the biggest HOB venue yet. I'm never good at sizing crowds. Had to be close to 1,000 I reckon. Me and Penny hung out in the back. K managed to work her way up front for most of the show but joined us near the end. All I know is I wanted optimum Meg White viewing capacity.
Forget what time they actually hit the stage but they came on for a bit then ran right back off! Don't really know what the problem was. After about 5 mins they came back and the show was on! So many highlights for me. "Hotel Yorba", "Death Letter", "I Think I Smell A Rat". Of course I was enjoying the bounciness factor of Meg! Jack is pretty underrated as a guitarist. That fucker gets way into it! Smokin' slide runs on "Ball And Biscuit"! At the end of that song they did a "Seven Nation Army" tease and went right into "Louie, Louie" of all things! First song of the encore was "We Are Going To Be Friends" which had the crowd singing along and a big smile on Jack's face. "Hardest Button" was in the encore too and really kicked it! Still amazed how just 2 people can make such a full sound. Excellent concert!
