Generation TV Sessions 6
Headed up to the studio last night with a special guest, our buddy George (Wild Geo) tagged along. That fucker dissapeared again for awhile but he's back....for now. Penny sat this one out 'coz the fucker is sick and we didn't need to catch any illness from him. After the traditional "noorishment" stop, we we're on our way.
While we scarfed down our grub, Philmore played back last weeks session. It's really sounding good! Very pleased how it's turning out so far. Now it was time for work.
"Gonna Be Bad" was first up. Andy dounbled tracked the lead vocals and then dropped a little bombshell on me. He wanted me to change the way I sang my backing vocs for it. It was no big deal, but what cracked me up was after all this time of countless practices and live playings, now you tell me? I just thought it was amusing. Either way, it worked.
"Breathe In" again had double tracked lead vocals. Philmore helped out with backing vocs on this one.
For "Shelly's A Poseur" we had George come out with us too to yell out "Poseur". Think the fucker's expecting royalties now. Took several takes at the end where Andy had to go up a pitch and we yelled out "Shellys". Everyone kept losing their place and much hilarity ensued.
"Corey's Getting Pierced" Had the gang yelling out the "heys". More royalties eh George?
"Generation TV" had more group yelling. Guess these are angrier songs! Andy had a wacky idea about adding tambourine but as I said "Nah man, I picture tambourine in a happy song not this" (ended up not doing it). After recording you could hear my dopey ass on the tape when I was struck with sudden brillance. I wanted to whisper the one line where we quiet it down for a sec. We want out there again for more double tracking and I want ahead and did it. Everyone nodded how cool it was. Nah man, where's my royalties?
"No Cranium" really came out nice with the "chubbyknuckle choir" in full effect. Turning in to one of my faves now.
Only 2 more songs left for backing vocs, then it's on to lead guitar. I think only 4 or 5 of the songs actually need it. Andy also wants a sample of TV static for the song "Generation TV" added. The next session should be the last then it will be on to mixdown.
