See what happens when you play last second shows? We found out only on Wednesday, No Risk we're asked only a week ago. We did have a couple no shows (you fuckers know who you are! :p). Kite was afraid to come out 'coz of the storm (even though his big balls could be used as a floatation device), could that be the reason for the other no shows too? We had 2, count 'em 2 paying customers! LOL! So besides No Risk and girfriends, it was another band practice. I'm not complaining at all, it was still a fun time! We even played a few rarities as well!
We got there around 8:30. They were just opening the place up. So it was up the awful stairs to unload the gear. At least I didn't have to bring my actual drumkit (kick and toms), but I did have to bring just about everything else. So I put that all in the corner as we would be playing first. The No Risk boys showed up not much longer after us. The drummer set the kit up and I put all my stuff around it. It would be a low rider kit with only 1 rack tom, but it's all about overcoming and adapting.
So from there it was back to the comfortable couches in the back lounge area for some rest and relaxation. When it was apparent no one really was showing up, the bartender said we might as well start, so we did. The girlfriends along with No Risk and their crew got up and it was on with the show. I don't care if it's 2 or 200 people, it's all about playing and having fun, and we did.
Penny was in a rather playful mood going into the "Action Jackson" theme and later "Beach Party Vietnam" which we kicked out live for the first time ever. "Radio Off" segued right into "Neg Mofo" halfway thru. I even tacked on "Pollution" at the end. A nice fun gig.
No Risk kept the band practice theme going as well playing what I take are rarities for a live show for them. Andy yelled out "play some Skynyrd" but they thought he said Slayer and went into a bit of a song. They later played Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" which had Andy and Pika up cutting the rug along with the 2 paying customers. They did close with some friggin' Skynryd after all, a little "Free Bird" to end the night! LOL! Great show by those guys.
I didn't even dare ask for any gas money LOL, from there it was out into the soon to be stormy night. A Wawa run was in order as we got close to home. Y'all gotta try that new Katie Mae or whatever brand it's called, Lime and Black Pepper kettle chips. You can trust a fatty on this one!
