The Warehouse, Swainton, NJ 4/13/07
First off, once again this band was thrown an obstacle and we overcame it yet again. Things were looking pretty grim Thursday night. Being in a band is almost like a marriage (without the sex of course), communication is the key. I really did think it was gonna be all over Johnny! But we sat down, ironed shit out, and returned from the dead again. Don't worry fuckers, we ain't going nowhere! Alright, enough with the bromance, on with the show...
I was kinda worried about this show, be it from not even knowing what to call the venue to not even having an exact location. But the flyer info did work, after we pulled into the Shell station there and figured out we couldn't drive thru though. The big sheet with "the warehouse" helped matters out as well.
So we pull into the parking lot and see the kids bug and no other cars. It was like "uh oh, is this the right place? Is this gig still happening?" But Penny did say there were people inside. So we go in thru the office and the one band's Mom from the Swainton house show last year is there giving out specific instructions and kinda making my head spin from it, LOL! I first thought we had to go up some stairs to unload the gear, a fatty's worse enemy, but after the initial confusion saw it was beyond the office. I tell you the room was huge! The lady who seemed to be running it said it cost them $2000 just to rent it, but I'm told it wasn't true, so I dunno. She was also talking about making this a permanent all ages venue. Who knows, I know it would work perfect and we're gonna look into it for the 7/6 show.
Jim, the kid who asked us to play was telling us how bands were dropping out, wanting to change their set times, it was a real nightmare it sounded like. Felt bad for him. There was hardly anyone there and I felt bad about that too. I know we did our best to get the word out. I will say I did hear some feedback saying $10 to get in was a little too steep for some people. Maybe that had something to do with it, I dunno.
So we set up the gear and waited around a bit to see if some more people would show. I got nervous when Penny spied a fog machine, memories of choking at the one Legion Hall show is still burned into my brain. There was also one of the flashing lights that can cause seizures. So of course he aims this stuff at me and lets loose, fucker! The kids then went off in search of a Wawa while Andy entertained the few people there with his acapella Sanford & Son theme and some bad stand up comedy. I even joined in for a few painful jokes as well. Andy and I's co-worker Dawn showed up much to our surprise. Another co-worker Ceddy showed up, but he was there more for the hardcore bands later The kids returned and it was time to plug in and play.
Overall, we still had a fun time. The girlfriends were up dancing along with a couple other girls who I found out later are part of the Wicked Fest crew. Penny kept letting off the fog machine choking us again, LOL. Nothing like hearing Andy sputter and cough thru a song 'coz of it. Penny wanted to play the mega fast songs near the end and thankfully only 4 were played in a row this time. We went on around 3:15 and were done by 4. It looked like more people were showing up so maybe they did better later in the evening. It was supposed to go 'till 10PM after starting at 11AM. We packed up the gear and headed out. I did get back to playing some Madden after all!
