Hurricane East, Wildwood, NJ 3/30/07
Man, that was a fun almost homecoming type show with our bestest over 21 peoples. I had a great show and fun time.
Andy and I got the gear loaded up, just the amps and guitars. Chuck from Raucous would be letting me and Joe from SP use his kit. Had to make the traditional Wawa stop for my water and Riiiiiiiiiiiicola! We got there a little after 8:15, the kids were already there playing pool.
Chuck showed up not much longer afterwards so Joe and I helped bring in his kit. It was the least we could do for letting us use it as well. The rest of the Raucous boys showed up too and before too long Styrofoam Paradise was up there opening up the show. Who would've thhunk a show would actually go on time for once there?
It was pretty funny watching vertically challanged Joe playing Chuck's "Stretch Armstrong" drum kit, but he overcame and adapted! My horizontally challanged ass even has trouble with it sometimes. SP played a nice set and we made 'em play GG Allin's "Bite It You Scum" even though Pinski was protesting at first. Good job fellers!
Us dopes were gonna go on next. I didn't even really tinker with the kit this time around, just played it as is. I liked our little "check" improv song we did for the soundcheck. We decided to play the first part of the set the songs we're gonna record in April for an upcoming split with The Shuttlecocks. At first I thought it was gonna be another band practice with not many people there, but a couple of songs in I see all the old pals showing up. Kite and his new gal Myrissa, Ralph, Murdoch, Bob and Bruce (my "surveys inc." buddies who both were seeing us for the first time), Matt, Derek, The "silly sisters" Nikki and Jo Jo, Jen, Zinah, Meghan, Jessy, did I get everyone? LOL! The place filled up nicely after all.
I was having a great time up there. Hell, I was even singing backing vocs for the first time in forever. Of course we saved Neg Mofo for the end where everyone gathered down in the front to sing along as well as Keith and Damien from Raucous joining us onstage adding their vocals. I kicked in the drumbeat for "Rock And Roll Radio" and we finished things up. Nice long set and a fun one too!
The Raucous boys closed things up with a great set. Not bad for not having played in 2 months! Andy and I pretended to beat each other up for my favorite song that I beat myself upon the head area. I still don't the official title of that song, "Fuck You, This Is My Life"? Toward the end, I was outside for a bit and I hear a huge crash followed by a big cheer. Chuck had knocked over his drums. Found out later they kept sliding on him and he just got frustrated. I feel your pain brother, Lord knows I've been there before. The best time is when I got so pissed off in my Black Friday days I paid a kid $10 to sit in front of the drums for the rest of the show when they kept sliding! Damien's twin sister Priscilla played bass for an old KLO song and Andy joined in on a partial drum kit. Thought it sounded pretty good! All in all, a fun night!
Afterwards Ralph and Bruce somehow piled in the back of the van and we all went off to Mr. D's to get a 1/2 pound treat, which they don't even call it anymore. So I just said cheesesteak with fried onions and mushrooms. After our food run, it was over to Murdoch's where I haven't hung out in forever. It was good to hang with the old crew again. Can't wait to put up pics that Ralph was taking on my own myspace page. They're a hoot!
