Punkstock, American Legion Hall 148, Hightstown, NJ 3/23/07
This show was supposed to take place last November, but got postponed when the legion hall double booked the date. But a little perseverance from Alex and Idiomatic Clothing made the show happen after all, albeit a little later.
It started off as a gorgeous spring day. Warm enough for no Eagles hoodie much to K's joy. I did bring the black one just in case it got cooler later. Glad I did more for the fact I used it as a headrest. I was cramped up in the back of the van with K as her pillow with Andy driving and Penny as the co-pilot. The day before I had gone to 3 different places online for driving directions and got 3 different answers. Luckily my friend Margaret had called me and sue to all the driving from her old job, pretty much knows her way all around NJ. Her directions worked like a charm, although we did start heading in the wrong direction on RT-130. A quick call to Alex had us back on track.
The nice spring weather was replaced by dreariness and rain, as we got closer to Philly and Trenton. All we kept hearing on the radio was horrible traffic conditions. Luckily we avoided that except for a little bottleneck getting on 42 from 55.
We got to the hall and were kinda surprised by the location. Plenty of parking, no houses nearby, and it was pretty big inside. Wish we had something like that down here. Said hello to Alex and brought the gear on. Since we were playing second, I set everything up near the side of the stage. I saw one of the guys from Sharkys Machine and immediately where the Cowboys fan member of the band was, LOL.
First band playing was called The Knockouts. Might have been their last show according to them. I enjoyed their set. So I was alone up on the stage with the drums while the other 2 were down in front. No monitor as usual, but I could hear things well at this place. We played a nice tight set. K was dancing and having fun. Saw others getting into it as well. We even broke out 2 new songs in the set "Punk Rockers With Cell Phones" and "I Like You Better Than Star Wars". I was kinda hot up there and needed more water breaks than usual, but I still had fun. I'd like to thank the drummer for Free Yon for helping me get my stuff off the stage, as well as Alex and Idiomatic Clothing for having us. We had a rush up to the merch after the gig, so thanks to the local kids for the support. Wish we could've stayed for the rest of the show, but Andy was pretty tired and he is the driver. Hope the rest of the bands had a good gig.
