After 3 action packed days, we got our latest studio session finished and mixed. 4 of the 6 songs recorded will be on the upcoming "Summer Sounds: Four Reasons For The Season" split along with 4 tracks each from The Adorkables, The Kilowatts, & The Bluffingtons on Cabana 1 Records coming this June.
Since the last blog post about it, Penny had gone up to record his bass tracks. I forget why I couldn't make it, might have been work related, but it's been almost a month since he got that done. We were now on a deadline and had to get this finished by the end of the month. Actually, this week as our engineer "Frodo" (Chris) would be away starting today.
Andy went in this past Monday night to record his lead vocals. I missed that session too as the dope said he wanted to go in alone as it would be less stressful. Guess he was feeling the deadline pressure, I dunno. So I settled in to my usual routine of playing Madden and that fucker invites me last second to go. I wasn't giving up my game though LOL! Anyways, I'm happy to report all went well, except he did tell me the next day at work how much Frodo was a taskmaster to get the proper pronunciation just right.
Tuesday evening all 3 of us went in for the backing vocals. Andy and I invited out co-worker Dawn to show up, and she did much to our surprise. She didn't bring the captain though, dammit. Andy wound up doing the majority of the vocs himself. Penny added to "Something's Wrong With My Brain" and "Knucklehead". I sang 1 line in "Knucklehead" and joined in with the other 2 for shouting out in "Spoiled Junky College Girl".
Frodo was ragging on us for being slightly off time on the latter song, but we were telling him there was a split second delay hearing the song from the control room and not in a pair of headphones. I'm so glad Andy's mathematical whiz of a brother prooved us right. We made sure to put him on speaker phone while mixing last night to show that ornery hobbit. One of the other highlights, actually, more of a lowlight, is when Penny and I were recording our line in "Knucklehead". I see Frodo dancing in the doorway, and Andy joined in and suddenly dropped trou and bareass farted on him. *wretch*
I'm really loving how "Retarded" came out. I think our old buddy Philmore will shed a tear when he hears that one. All that harmonizing at Stealth Studios paid off. Andy did a superb job on that one with a ton of multitracked backing vocals he did himself.
Last night was spent mixing. That went faster then I expected. Chris was easy to work with. Letting us have the final say, but also adding a couple of ideas as well. I'd definately like to go back to "The Mothaless" to do more recording down the road.
So now we're leaving it up to Tim and Alma to pick what 4 songs out of the 6 to use for the split. The other 2 just might show up on a 7", we'll see. Here's the songs again...
Something's Wrong With My Brain, Knucklehead, Retarded, Spoiled Junky College Girl, Not Gonna Miss You, My Life's Crumbling
