I'm going up to Philmore's today to jam with him and a bass player friend of his. Should be running thru the entire Beatles songbook, LOL. This could be the start of a nice diversion from my regular band. Hopefully they'll be more classic rock and blues thrown into the mix for good measure. It will be nice re-visiting my roots.
Had a staff meeting with the new food and beverage manager at the job Friday. He's seems OK and the first impression is he'll go to bat for us. Problem is, the members will probaly wear him down. We'll see how that goes. Chef Squarepants let it be known in no uncertain terms that we can't be taking off for any kind of summer mini-tour. We might get a stretch of 4 days, but that's it. I'm just hoping they plan on closing January thru March again like the old days. And hopefully with more notice. I'd be happy to plan stuff around those 3 months. The Sheckies roadtrip to Mardi Gras may finally happen after all. Either way, it's so slow anyway that time of year that it shouldn't be a problem getting the time off. So I guess the plan is keep playing shows here and there, keep recording, and hope that we get some kind of record support. As much as I piss and moan about the job, I need it. I hate change and I'm well established there. I'm too old now just to up and quit and take my chances. If I was in my 20's, yes, but not now.
Mimi is definately fired too. I really feel bad about that. Friggin' Joan was almost sounding like she was pinning it on me. I'm not the chef, it was his call. I wish she would've been given another chance. But in Pant's words, "she burned too many bridges". I never really realized until the past year how truely nasty her attitude was. That was from the drinking and it effected the whole kitchen. That's why I never approached her about being late every damn day and leaving early. She was considered the full time cook, she was the one with the benefits, hell, she even had off 3 days every week. Something happened last year that really gave her the attitude. I knew when she was even pissing off the twins that she was skating thin ice. I can't dwell on it, I just have to move on. All I know is the mood is much lighter when I work with Dawn and the dopey club mix at Noon is too funny. So adios Mim, here's to the fun times. Now get some help for your drinking, and get in better heath.
Martha is flying in tomorrow, her flight arrives a little after 6 PM. It's going to be fun to have someone to hang out with and go places. I expect a nice visit and no expectations.
I've been pretty lax on the diet this past week. I expect it to be worse during Martha's visit as I want to go out to eat at different restaurants. I want sushi dammit! I'd like to check out the Indian place I heard about as well.
Any conversation I've had with Andrea revolves around the many my space surveys. Either way, I'm happy to have her again as a friend, even if it's just thru my space.
Pete's ex-GF Kristen found me thru there. Man, the 3 of us used to have so much fun hanging out together back in the day. I still think she was the one he should've married. It seems his wife Kaia wants to have her cake and eat it too. On one hand I guess it's good she's staying in the area so it's easier to see his kids, but then her hanging around and not making up her mind on what she's doing kinda messes with his head. I'm sure he'll be just fine if she left him alone to run his restaurant. She just doesn't want to give that up even after she said she would. Guess lawyers will get involved in the end.
The bordom of having all this time off made me revert to my sportscard collecting nerdom. Not really buying anything new, except for a few older cards to finish sets, mostly I'm just organizing and taking better care of them. And it's emergency money too if I ever need it if I sell them.
I recently bought a wireless Philadelphia Eagles controller for my PS2, much to the chagrin of Andy. In my defense, I don't just only use the PS2 for Madden, I use it for a DVD player too dammit! Sorry I don't get into any other video games. Too many buttons to push. Whatever happened to the days of just pressing one friggin' button?
I'm finishing up the "Let It Blurt" book about Lester Bangs. Next up I'm tackling a book called "Extreme Cusine". Think guts, bugs and animals us Westerners normaly wouldn't eat. Always been facinated with that kind of stuff, not that I could stomach it!
Ah, see how mundane and boring my life is? It ain't easy being the lonliest Sheckie.
