Memories Lounge, Richland, NJ 2/23/07
After the last 2 "meh" shows, I thought we absolutely killed it last night. See what a little "bromance" does? Everything is wine and roses in Sheckie-world.
Andy and I were meeting the kids there again, bringing up the gear in the van. The laugh for the ride up was the new Kerbeck car commercial which has found the announcer seemingly on tranquilizers. I couldn't get used to him not screaming at us. Guess you had to be there. Of course it was the clusterfuck as we predicted as far as exactly who was playing, and when. I had to tease Sean from the VB Boys unmercifully over that. It 'tisn't easy after all dealing with setting up shows eh? Luckily things got worked out quick and it was onto the show.
Mike and Lucy from Underground Vintage Clothing made it out to the show. Lucy brought me English chocolates in lieu of jaffa cakes, which I was appreciative of and didn't even make it thru the ride home. Bryan from The Seedy Store Record Exchange came out and brought some friends. Everyone should go to the Ramones night they're running tonight, come hang out with us! (Check 'em out under our top friends for the info).
The first band up was the Quaren Teens, yes, and the makers of the awesome Anna Nicole flyer. Great old school sound punk sound from a bunch of snot nosed kids. I loved it! Following them was The Van Buren Boys, our own "Sheckie kids" Matt and Sean's band. For their first show I thought they did damn good. The bassist from the Quaren Teens filled in for them on a few songs, but for most there wasn't any bass. Get a full time bass player you punks, you're just about there! The "tall kid", Bryan, and the old guitarist from Xyile played a few noisy songs in their set with Sean singing. I think it frightened a few people, but I dug it. Styrofoam Paradise followed and played a good set as well. Vinni got them blacklisted from the place with his diving into the drums at the end of their set. The sound guy didn't like him knocking over his mike stand. It was pretty punk though.
It was now our turn and as I first mentioned, it was a damn good show. Only miscue was me messing up the intro to "Cut Marks", so we started it over. One of these days I will have a drum monitor and will be able to hear everything back there. Oh, forgot to mention Bryan from the Seedy Store played an original song to start things off. I tried to provide some drums for him. OK, back to us dopes. It was a fun show as I said, lots of people dancing, a mini circle pit, and smiles all around. We needed a show like that, our super Sheckie powers are regenerated!
No Risk closed the show and played a tight set. Nice job fellas. After some BS-ing with Bryan's friends with tales from last summer's mini-tour, it was homeward bound. A quick stop at a gas station food mart was in order. So much for the friggin' diet, but after the English choccy woccys, there was no turning back! The micro waved burgers reminded me of the old burgers I had at St. Raymond's as a kid. Andy hit upon the brilliant idea of a "school lunch restaurant". And why not? After seeing restaurants that feature toilets and beds, could be the next trend. Somebody market that. We had a carload of kids from the show pass us and and wave, think it might've been part of Styrofoam Paradise. Right after that, I see a car pull out that was the po po. See that kids? Slow and steady wins the race! Hope ya's didn't get a ticket. Thanks again to Memories and the sound guy for having us.
