Benefit for Sophie Darr, The Fire Hall, Somers Point, NJ 1/26/07
Sophie is Shane from NRL's cousin's 3 year old daughter. Last November she was diagnosed with cancer. Shane wanted to put together a benefit show to help raise some money for the family in their time of need. Although I was a little disappointed in the turnout, we still raised $300 and for that I thank the people that did come out. You can still make a contribution at her web page...

Figures yesterday was the coldest day of the winter so far, but it actually felt good for it to finally feel like it was winter for once. Our buddy Ivan came along for the ride. He's hobbled by an injured foot and had to make it around in a boot contraption and a crutch. I thought we all were gonna fall asleep on the ride up, the cold made us even more lethargic then we usually are.
We got to the fire hall around 4:30. Brian from Just In Case was kind enough to be doing sound for us. So we sat around and waited getting more nervous as the scheduled 6:00 start time was getting closer and hardly anyone was showing up. Eventually people started trickling in and by the time we started around 6:40 there was a small but rowdy group there. We were kicking things off and I thought played a nice set. The Sheckie kids were out there having fun and dancing around. We even laid 4 new songs on them, one I even surprised my band mates with but going into it. I'm still pleading my case that I was in time for "Spoiled Junky College Girl", we had to stop and start that one over. I think "Sorry So Psycho" turned out to be an instant classic. Finally, the great-lost Sheckie song has seen the light!
The good old Raucous brothers boys band (from Chicagothat's a joke BTW, ya's better get the joke) were up next and played a great set. The kids were still out there moshing up a storm for 'em. Common Enemy was up next and played their insanely fast hardcore skate punk. They did a song about Nintendo 8 bit Andy and I immediately loved. Still can't figure out how the singer does it without ripping his vocal cords. NRL closed the show. Andy and I had to do the moves along with them as usual. I had someone fall on my right foot and crushed the pinky toe. It's quite an interesting shade of purple today. And whaddaya know? Shane Problem wasn't even a problem. Andy and Penny did pants him at one point. Geo even sat in on guitar for a song. Somebody in the crowd stripped down to their boxers and molested poor Dustin. I think "naked guy" was the one who crushed my foot too! Great set by NRL 1-2-3-4!!!!! Thanks go out to the bands for making this one fun show.
After the show, we made a Wawa run and headed over to Suburbia Tattoos where "my son" was laying ink on Ben from NRL. He's now sporting the NRL skull. I think Shane Problem was getting the Wawa goose tattooed on him, but by that point I was getting sleepy and it was time to go.
