Had my employee Xmas party last night that was a lot of fun! We had it at Diane K's house. Me and the Andy were the first to arrive. He wanted to be fashionably late, but I explained my logic of getting there first, so you can start drinking first and already have your hair down! LOL! I was playing a drinking game with Dawn and the boys until I heard Pants had a guitar. It was a wacky house! I think it's what you call a split level? when you walk in you have a choice of walking upstairs to one level, or down to another. So the main party was in the upper level, we had the music down below.
At first we were playing jazzy instrumentals with Pants on guitar, Andy on bass, and me on the doumbek drum. I was proud of Andy keeping up, he really impressed me with his playing last night, I saw a side of him I never seen before. We really got cooking when I led them on a blues number kinda based on "Rolling and Tumbling". I started improvising blues lyrics and it was really good! Andy eventually took the guitar and Pants switched to bass. We then played a long jammed out version of "Born on the Bayou". Andy was actually pulling off some tasty leads! I told him later "nah man, see, it can be fun playing in a jam band"! We also played a fun version of "I Saw Her Standing There". I took over on guitar and lead them thru "Wild Thing". We wound up playing a real nice instrumental that Pants told me he lifted from "More Than A Feeling" I thought it sounded more like "Dear Mr. Fantasy" so it was officially titled "More Than A Fantasy" LOL! My co-worker Thelma's husband Mark was really impressed. He was down there grooving and thought we were already a band. It really was a fun time!
Oh, I think I'm gonna get some jams in with our producer Philmore. He has a bass player lined up and a PA soon to be brought into his basement. Already told him we're gonna cover the whole Hendrix "Band of Gypsys" album! You know they'll be a ton of Beatles too! Found out work is gonna be closed from 1/22 until 3/9 not 3/2, so I should have plenty of spare time! As much as I love being in The Sheckies, I was raised on Classic Rock and Blues. I'm really looking forward to getting some jams in outside of the band. We're pretty much going to be laying low anyway for the first few months of the year making our plans and saving up for the Summer. This will be a healthy outlet in the meantime.
We have that show tonight up in Richland, NJ. Punk Rock Xmas 2! I really don't understand promoters sometimes. I told the dude about how we don't have the van and how the one band Guerilla Mask is cool with letting me use their drums. I simply asked if we could either play before or after them to make it easier on the change over. Of course, he didn't fucking listen. I really don't know what to expect. I'll get by one way or another.
