Jen's Birthday house party, North Cape May, NJ 11/11/06
We once again crashed a party and wound up playing. Penny had called me in the afternoon with a mischievous tone to his voice. K was invited to one of our fan's Jen birthday party so the plan was set. Andy wasn't into it at first, then I wasn't into it when I found out how late it was (after 9, thought it would get shut down by the cops for sure). But we said what the hell and all met up at my house around 8:30.
Following Penny is always an adventure in itself with his disregard for all the normal rules and regulation of driving. After several u-turns, we found the place. I knew I was in trouble when the first thing I hear is "can someone buy us liquor". Ugh, Kids I feel your pain, and lord knows I did the same friggin' thing when I was your age, but no way in fuck was I gonna make a run. I kept having visions of the cops showing up and since I was the oldest one there being held responsible for all the underage drinking a going on there. It's hip to be square! Yaaaaay!
So here I was sitting there patiently enjoying Styrofoam Paradise playing their set and nervously awaiting the squad cars to show up. Finally the tension was too much and I headed outside. Andy was already one step ahead of me. Finally, Penny came out to tell us it was our turn to play. We made our way inside. Vinni had to pull the bass drum out to fit my fat ass behind it in the corner. My lone cymbal was on a hi-hat stand lower than the high hat I was playing. The toms kept moving, the bass drum kept sliding, but I dealt with it and actually had some fun. It got hot as all fuck in there while we were playing. But kids were up dancing and having fun and the birthday girl had the time of her life saying it was the best birthday ever. So it made up for all the nervousness beforehand. We sure hightailed it out of there as soon as we were done though! LOL! I found out later other shit was going on too. It was really a recipe for disaster, but we made it out unscathed. Ah, to be a teen again feeling young and invincible. Hope they had fun the rest of the night, and I hope the Po Po didn't show up!
