House Party, Swainton, NJ 10/13/06
And so began The Sheckies snotty weekend tour (as named by Andy being we have 3 shows in 2 days and my nose is dripping like a faucet). It was only fitting that we were playing at the last house on the left on Friday the 13th!
We got there after a much needed Wawa pit stop where I had to pick up some water and more friggin' Halls cough drops. I'm eating them like friggin' candy just trying to make it thru. But to say the old entertainment adage, the show must go on!
We were happy to see some of our Sheckie kids waiting for us. Sean, Matt, & Judy made it out. We only had about 2 days notice to try and get the word out, I know I did my best my space pimpin'. The show was to be outside on a big patio facing a huge yard. We were set up in front of an in ground swimming pool which I'll talk about later. Penny added some of our PA speakers to what was already there trying to boost the volume.
The 1st band Sacred To None had some problems with the vocs, but pulled it off pretty decently I thought. The Verderlet played next and played a strong set. Face The Truth featured my former co-worker George on vocals and had Don filling in on drums since their drummer bugged out the night before. They managed to have some fun considering the circumstances.
We were gonna finish things up. In the middle of setting up, Gabby called us to get directions. She was coming down from her college and had a choice of going to one of the last CBGB's shows or seeing us dopes. Let it be known the Sheckie kids are a dedicated bunch! So there I was setting up on the little drum riser hoping I wouldn't fall off into the pool. We started off with the traditional "Girls With Boyfriends". I had to not look back at the pool 'coz I would almost get dizzy and think I was going in! I also had a little scare thinking the ticker was gonna kick in for a bit, but everything turned out OK. I really couldn't hear a goddamned thing back there and was concentrating on Penny's faraway sounding bass amp. I think I managed to keep time A-OK considering the circumstances. It was a small crowd, but a circle pit broke out a few times so that made it fun. Being sick as all fuck actually made it easier to ignore the early cold snap we were playing in. All in all, a pretty decent show. Special thanks to The Verdelet and their folks for having us.
