Le Grande Fromage, Atlantic City, NJ 8/18/06
I was pretty tired before this gig. It was my day off so I decided to straighten up our front porch and my room. Those in the know can tell you how much a rarity that is! Anyways, the other fellas came over really early and packed everything up, even my drums for me. I was pretty grateful.
Andy picked me up right around 8 in the van. The kids ended up going with Kite and Shields in Kite's truck. We kept teasing those 2 knuckleheads that the only reason they were going was for the beer special.
This was our first time playing this place. Andy and I checked it out a few months earlier at a Jumpship show. That was downstairs, this time we'd be up top. Of course I wasn't too thrilled with the prospects of lugging my shit up a flight of stairs, but when the time came our friends and the other bands all helped so it wasn't bad at all.
The upstairs was really cool. Had a little lounge area with couches and chairs. We all chilled out there for awhile. At one point calling up Geo to heckle that fuck.
Fenwick was playing first. This female trio out of Mass. contacted us thru my space about the show. Since it was Jumpship's gig, they were kind enough to put them on. This was the first night of their first ever tour. I thought they played a great set, but they were having trouble with feedback, tuning, and the monitors. Good job regardless.
Us dopes followed and I thought played a pretty damn good set. My tiredness went away and I got into it. We even played a rarity, "No Seratonin" at the request of AJ from Jumpship. Crowd was into it and they showed it. Andy's Hello Kitty guitar was a hit. He popped a string on it though and had to quickly switch back to his old warhorse tele.
A band from North Jersey called Ratchets played next. Real nice Ska/Reggae-ish sound that had everyone dancing. Their cover of My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes To Bitburg) was a hit.
Jumpship closed the show and they just killed it. Great fucking set! People coming up singing and the best highlight, 2 drunk girls dirty dancing along with the music. A great ending to a great night.
Oh, we had to break the news to them that the 8/26 Legion show has been cancelled. Apparently 2 kids were fucking on the lawn at the last Hardcore show and the cops came. Supposed to be a write up in the local paper next week. There goes our all ages venue.
