Black Crowes, Penn's Landing, Philadelphia, PA 7/29/06
Yup, my fifth show in the space of a year. Hope to go to Reading, PA too on 9/8. Anyone wanna go?
I went with the same crew as the 9/30 Tower show last year. My co-worker Suki, her BF Barry, and her son Joey. Last year it was her b-day and Joey's 1st concert, this year the show fell on the day before Joey's b-day so that was kinda cool.
Yeah, it was a parking lot, but not nearly as bad as what some people are making it. It was hot as blazes but not that bad when the sun went down. Felt a cool breeze now and again. We were a little bit in front of the SBD slightly to the right. You had enough room to groove and people around us were great. Thought the sound was excellent back there and balanced well.
Highlights
(Only) Halfway To Everywhere - Oh yeah, Sven brought the Funk, but Rich was playing some tasty Funk guitar under it as well.
Gone = monster
A Conspiracy - Quite the surprise especially that early. Was loving it
Ballad - Got a little misty eyed wishing I was seeing the show with a certain someone, we will oneday. The ending jam was epic as always
Alabama - Ford unleashed at end. Great version.
H2H - I dug the Chris in space moment myself
Wiser Time - Definately caught me by surprise. Very nice indeed.
Tied Up And Swallowed - Nothing like a like romantic song to wind things up!
Everyone in my little group enjoyed the show. Think they're slowly becoming fans yet. Shame some real ugliness happened after the concert. Suki accidentely locked the keys in the car. That set off major arguing and an almost fistfight between Joey and Barry. It was a few hours of hell before AAA came and got the door open. What made it worse was parking lot people kept threatening to lock the gates. So I was stressing about that. I had to be the peacemaker between between Suki & Barry. Joey had long dissapeared, taking off after the fight. We ended up leaving him there, what else were we to do? He could've called or came back within the 2 hours it took for AAA to get there. Found out the next day at work from Suki he did make it home after quite the adventure of clubbing and such. At least he did enjoy his b-day after all.
