Club 218, Philadelphia, PA 7/27/06
Finally, a real Philly club gig. Not that those private parties we played at Shields werent fun, but you know what I mean. An actual club right there on friggin South Street even.
The band, K, and Shields were all in the van. We didnt have to bring much gear, so it all worked out right. We get up to South St. and of course cant find parking. Wound up parking in a $10 lot a few streets over. We had to pull up the van real quick and unload with seconds to spare before a deluge hit. Club 218 was on the 2nd floor. Shields was kind enough to lug up the heavy cymbal stands bag. We were the 1st ones there and since we were gonna play first I set up. The house drum kit sounded pretty damn good once Timeless tuned it up. We hung around a good bit shooting the shit with J3 and NRL. Sound check wasnt until around 10.
We got that all squared away and were off. I wanted to play a lot of new songs since the sound guy was kind enough to record us. I thought we played a damn good set considering we hadnt even practiced since the last Ohio gig. Only bummer was it mostly was just the other bands watching. Think the rain kept people from coming out. Either way, it didnt matter and I had fun up there. And I hope to get some of these new live songs up on my space soon. Recording came out pretty good for a straight board mix.
J3 played next and had to deal with Shane Problem and his homoerotic fantasies. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah! They played a fine set even with all the interruptions from the squinty eyed drunkard. NRL followed them and turned in a pretty good set despite Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah. Couldve been so much better if Shane would just wait until after he played to get loaded. Yup, Im calling you out again buddy. Get yer shit together! Ben and Timeless are real troopers to deal with that.
Live Like Skyscrapers played a nice set of modern rock. I thought it was pretty good myself. A 5th band who we didnt even know about got on the bill at the last second, but it was pretty late at that point and we had to split. So sorry we couldnt stay. Thanks to Club 218 and Kenny G the sound guy. Oh, and a shout out to Dave our Philly my space friend. Was good seeing you again dude! Good luck with your band.
