Tour diary (last part)
(written 7/19/06)
We're still in Room 117 of the Budget Inn. We decided to spend an extra day here since the last show is like 20 minutes away. Yesterday was a nice lazy day of hanging around the motel room. We did step out for an excellent lunch right down the road. Penny and Andy had a "Pittsburgh Cheeseburger", which is a basic cheeseburger but with cole slaw, russian dressing, & french fries right on it. I even managed to get a nap when we got back. Jay from J3 was nice enough to pick us up for the show as we didn't really want to keep starting the van.
The skatepark we were playing was inside of an old store in a strip mall. Pretty big inside there and almost as hot as Cleveland. The Shuttlecocks were already there. We were hanging around waiting for Teabagger and Billy from The Hollywood Blondes to bring the PA. Stiv had to work and wouldn't even get there until after 9:30.
The Shuttlecocks opened things up and played a nice long set. I would be using Zac's drums again. We played next and played what I thought was our sloppiest show all tour. I think the heat and being tired from touring caught up to us. It was still a fun time though. Never Feel Alone particularly stood out as both Penny and I were missing our backing vocs. I was just damn tired to sing by that point.
J3 played next. It was great playing with them again. Best 3 shows of the tour for sure. We'll be playing with them in Philly next week. A local band of kids called The Better Side followed them. The lead guitarist was a little dude, but could shred.
From there it was wait around for Stiv. He finally showed up around 10 and the Blondes were playing by 10:15. Much props to the skate park for staying open for us. They played a great set. It was good to see them in a relatively fuck free environment compared to the peanut butter anarchy of the previous night. Stiv kept mentioning it too. I think peanut butter was still on his guitar too. The fabled wrestling match between us and J3 did break out during their set. Andy took a couple elbows "off the top rope". I almost slapped a figure four leglock on Jay. Funny times.
Afterwards we were all hanging out in the parking lot. We got a couple great group pics. After that we said our goodbyes and Jay took us to a local Denny's for an after show meal. There were some hi-jinks there concerning farting and talk that I look like a beaver. Andy almost shit his pants he was laughing so hard. I think we all nearly choked at one point or another. Today we're facing the long drive home. I just hope the van has a few more starts in her until we can get her home to Jim's to get fixed.

Afterthought (written 7/20/06)
And we thought the journey home would be easy. We broke down around Harrisburg, PA. Andy managed to pull off exit 242 of the PA. Turnpike. We coasted into a parking lot for a tollbooth. I got out my trusty AAA card and called. At 1st I was concerned because the person on the phone said AAA doesnt cover the Turnpike and we would be charged for the towing. But when the driver showed up he said no worries so that was a relief. There was no room for the kids in the truck, so they had to stay crouched down in the back of the van up on the truck for what promised to be a very bumpy ride. Andy and I rode up front with the driver. I thought he was cool, but Andy was kinda creeped out by him. He swore the dude deliberately ran over rumble strips to make it bumpier for the kids and smiled evilly while doing it. We got dropped off about 11 miles away at a Pep Boys auto center. Wouldve cost $87 for the towing but wasnt a dime thanks to AAA.
Andy and I stayed there while the kids went off on their own mini adventure. It definitely was the fuel pump. While they were working on it, the mechanic came out to tell us how rusty it was under there and was nervous about it holding. He suggested getting a whole new system put in. That wouldve cost $700 and taken 2 days just to get the parts in. Of course that wasnt an option. Im pretty sure it was just mechanic talk to squeeze more money out of us. The dude was trying to tell us if we hit any major bumps on the ride home it could fuck up and wed break down again. So that kinda made for a nerve wracking ride home. Wound up costing us $362 on my card of course. Andy paid me back $50 I considered the rest for the good of the band and an early birthday present for that fuck face. We had started off in Broadman, OH at 10 AM. Counting the breakdown and repairs, we rolled into the shed at 11 PM. It time for a break from each other after 8 straight days.
We did accomplish so much on this little sojourn. We met other cool bands and people. 2 Punk record guys saw our shows. I know Jonny Rally loved us. And even though we couldnt tell, I hear Jason Cheapskate liked us too according to Jay from J3. Even if we dont get signed, Rally wants to help us get some NYC shows. J Prozac wants to help us with recording and do a split. Jay wants us to come back out to Ohio to do some recording as well. A lot of cool things have and can happen out of this. I wouldnt trade any of the experience, good or bad, for the world. - King
