Ooops, forgot to add the tour diary here yesterday, so here is the recap of the 1st days...
Tour diary (pt. 1)
(originally written 7/12/06)
Day 1 is complete and what can I say? The Gillary's Tavern show was a great start for the 1st day of the tour. We wound up leaving NJ around 10 AM. Couldn't believe we fit everything into the van. Of course there were a few mishaps before we even got out of town. The gear kept falling all the way over to pick up Penny & K from her Mom's house. When Penny opened the side door, all the CD's fell out. A cop car decided to follow us almost all the way to the Parkway, and to make matters worse, we were stuck behind a disgusting sewage truck. A perfect shitty way to start a tour!
The trip up was pretty uneventful. We were on the road for about 7 hours including a couple pit stops. We wound up getting a little lost in the town of the show, but Penny's sense of direction pulled us thru.
Bristol, RI was just a perfect little quaint New England town. This was to be the catch phrase for this part of the journey. We walked around for a bit and when we got back to Gillary's, J Prozac was there. We wound up shooting the shit and he played us some rough mixes of new Prozacs songs that sounded great. Gillary's itself was a cool little bar. Has pool tables and air hockey upstairs which kept us busy for awhile. You could also look down over the stage. Got to meet Emerson from Mustache Ride who's a real character.
Out of the bands before us on the bill, Smartbomb really blew me away. Superfast punk rock. Bi Anal Ham Sandwhich was also great! Just him and his guitar and CD player. Picture a Tenacious D kinda sound.
Us dopes were the next act. I was happy 'coz all I needed was my drum throne and snare. Pretty small kit, but I got used to it quick and it sounded great! We played a rather short "greatest hits" type set. Only new song was "Stoopid Movie" at my suggestion. Shane Problem & Dave Timeless from NRL showed up. It was good seeing them. Kind of a small crowd mostly made up of all the other bands, but they dug it. Overall I was very happy with our set. A great 1st show.
The Prozacs followed and just kicked ass. They had us all up singing along and dancing. Next up was Boots and Bracelets all the way from Illinois. I think we all fell in love with the female bassist. They were pretty bombed, but it was a fun set. Mustache Ride finished things up and played a helluva set. I couldn't thank those guys enough for having us.
After the show the Po Po was trying to move us along. Was hard to take them serious with those accents! Thankfully they took off so we took a bunch of candid pics with us, J Prozac, Emerson & the drummer from Mustache Ride. Their friend most have been a professional photographer with 3 different cameras. Hope I can get some 'coz they're pretty funny!
It was a 2 hour drive back to J Prozacs house where him and his girlfriend Andyra were kind enough to let us stay the next 2 days. It was kinda scary though as he kept falling asleep while driving and Andy had to keep beeping and flashing his high beams at him. Had to make a couple stops and finally rolled in around 4. Only slept a few hours before I started writing. Thanks again to Mustache Ride and all the other bands as well as Gillary's and staff.

Tour diary (pt 2)

Day 3 is upon us. Yesterday was full of r&r at J Prozacs then our life flashing before our eyes drive in the pouring rain thru the Berkshire mountains on the way to the gig at Saint's Hall in Adams, MA. It's official, J Prozac drives like a maniac!
It really would've been a nice ride if it wasn't for the rain. And we're not talking about a Summer shower, we're talking barely seeing the road in front of you downpours on an interstate winding thru mountains. You just don't get that in our neck of the woods. And we were following J and K in the car ahead of us in our equipment heavy van. Penny happened to catch my comments to Andy about me wishing I had my xanax on video. Look for it on our DVD oneday.
We got lost for a bit, but J was able to contact Nate from The Blackouts who set up the show and we found it OK. The venue also prooved to be my worse nightmare as it was located up a flight of stairs on the 2nd floor. Luckily I was using Matty Prozac's kit, but I still felt bad for my bandmates lugging up their amps. At least people from other bands helped them out. The building had to be pretty old. It was a decent sized hall with a big stage up off the ground. I think it was more geared for polka not punk nights. We got settled in at the merch table and the show soon began.
The Uncomfortables were on 1st. I really liked their sound a lot even though the bassist insisted we boo them. The guitarist ripped out some cool leads on a flying v. Later on we got to hang out with them and they were just fun dudes. Big props to the drummer as you'll soon read.
The Pity Whores were supposed to play next, but they had yet to show so we were bumped up in their slot. As we were getting ready to set up, Matty noticed my bass drum pedal just wasn't working right. The beater kept sliding side to side. I recognized what the problem was, the one screw fell out that kept it in place so I was pretty much fucked. Matty's pedal was already broke that's why we were gonna use mine to begin with. That's when the drummer for The Uncomfortables came thru and let us borrow his. The Pity Whores showed up right before we started. They got lost along the way but made it. They now had to wait for us dopes.
I thought we played another strong show. A little longer than the night before. It was another small crowd, but they were way into it. We mixed up the set a little bit as we would do every night. I had a great time playing and felt good.
The Prozacs followed and kicked ass yet again. I had to sit down for a spell as being tired finally caught up to me. I made it back to the front for the end though.
Penny wanted to load the van so I missed most of The Pity Whores set. Andy caught most of it and really liked them. I liked the few songs I heard. During their set we had a dogpile on Andy moment that was pretty hilarious. Most of the Prozacs and Uncomfortables piled on as well. Funny shit!
The Blackouts and The Damaged finished things up, but I was pretty beat by then and sat down at the merch table. I definately liked what I heard though. Big thanks again to The Blackouts for having us, all the other bands, and they folks who braved a very rainy night.
Penny would be driving back with J so he wouldn't be falling asleep this time. We got lost again for a bit on the backroads. We passed a wacky street sign. I've seen signs that have said "watch for children" or "slow children", never just "children". For some reason this struck Andy and I as being hilarious and we laughed all the way back over it. We would keep repeating it all tour. Guess you had to be there! We finally made the interstate and stopped at a diner near J's that I dearly paid for the next day.
