It's that time of year again, the annual "Whale of a Day" festival right here in my neighborhood. I hear the goddawful One Man Band guy right on schedule. The shoobies just eat this stuff up! I went down there last year and actually found some vintage vinyl. Think I'll pass this year though, gotta save for tour.
I've calmed down a bit since my last rantings. Cindy called me Thursday which helped a lot. We shared several phonecalls and chat time. As she remarked it felt like we spent the day together. She sent me Les Claypool's Frog Brigade covering the entire Pink Floyd "Animals" album. It's fantastic! I also have a 4 CD "Soul Train: Very Best of Soul Anthems". I was teasing her that a lot of the tracks sounded like re-makes, but overall it's pretty good. What else can you expect for $18?
Ugh....The guy is singing "On The Way To Cape May". Now I know why animals chew their legs off to get out of steel traps!
I didn't even tell about the John Valby Andy and I saw at the HOB Club Harlem room up there in AC last Saturday night. I had bought general admission tickets thinking it would be a show like the good ol' days in Wildwood where you all stand in front of the stage. Little did I know there were reserved seats. We sat down in the last row on the right hand side. Room was pretty small so the view was great. Still worlds better than the friggin' Shamrock! He played a lot of the old favorites and a new song "the handicapped can" based on the standard "the candyman". I bought a CD and shirt between sets. He actually remembered me from the Shamrock. Told him I wished he played Wildwood twice during the Summer like the old days. He said only in the offseason now so I guess I have to deal with the Shamrock unless this HOB gig becomes a regular deal. The 2nd set featured gals up on stage flashing us during "Barnacle Bill". Was surprised it was only 2 sets compared to the usual 3 I've been used too. Still a fun night out and well worth it. My "I Beat Anorexia" shirt was a hit again too! Check out his website John "Dr. Dirty" Valby It's "not safe for work" in case you aren't exactly familiar with the good Dr.
Ugh!!! he's playing "On The Way To Cape May" again. This time in slower tempo with horn effects. Kill me now!...
