Hurricane East, Wildwood, NJ 4/11/06
This was totally unexpected. I had a chance to get online yesterday evening and saw DJ Jimmy J had sent us a message thru My Space asking if we wanted to play with Raucous since the other band scheduled dropped out. I tried calling Andy, but he was out. I was on the phone with Cindy when I heard K come in my house. I told her about it and she said just call the cell if we found out anything definate. Andy called me back and said he was into it. So him and Tweety picked me up and off we were.
We saw Jimmy J outside and he told us how he had asked Styrofoam Paradise to play so they were onstage when we got there. We saw Chuck & Keith from Raucous, but no Damian. I settled in enjoying some beverages and watching those kids play. I enjoyed their set a lot. Damian had appeared by the end of their set and it was decided we would play next. Chuck was kind enough to let me use his drumkit. Andy and Penny played thru Styrofoam Paradise's amps.
I was pretty tipsy by the time we got onstage. Penny played the riff from "Gonna Be Bad" so we decided to open with it. We hadn't played that song in awhile. A few more songs in and I was begging Chuck for his fan that he uses. That industrial strength fan/blower thingy. Once I had it, I settled in fine. It was a fun set. Styrofoam Paradise joined us onstage to sing "I'm A Slug". Chuck and Keith came up for "Neg Mofo".
After our set this woman comes up to me. I recognized her face, but couldn't quite place her. It was my friend Rie who I hadn't seen in forever. I really didn't recognize her 'coz she used to be about as big as I am. Turned out she had surgery to help with weight lose. She looked great! Good for her.
During the Raucous set a couple of the regular Hurricane gals came up to me asking to buy 'em drinks. Before I knew it, I was bled dry. Good work gals, at least I had some fun. Think I need to go back on a regular night.
We were outside with Jimmy J. He has his own shift on a local radio station now. Even though it's not quite our style, he still wants us to come to the station and do a live on the air appearence. We might do it just to have some fun.
Raucous played a nice long set. They played my favorite song (which I still don't know the name of). The "Fuck you, this is my life" tune. I never saw the Raucous cheerleaders. I'll be pissed if I missed them!
Wound up making a Wawa run then went back to Jen's house. Only fitting we sang the new song about it earlier in our set. Invader Zim on the TV, The Chantels "Best of" CD playing, some water fight involving a supersoaker, good times!
