American Legion Hall, Cape May Court House, NJ 2/25/06
Another great show minus some dopiness at the end from me. At least the Sheckie Kids had a great time. Lots of fun!
I left work early and when I got home Andy and Penny were already just about packed up. I threw my drums in the car and settled in for a game of Madden. Martha had called so I was talking with her. In the meantime my new roadie Dustin had stopped by. I finished things up and we were on our way.
Got there around 4. Pretty much set my stuff up in the corner so it would be easier to put it together when it was our turn to play. I then was pretty much just hanging out waiting for the show to start. K and her friend had went up and brought my ex-roadie George. He's been busy getting No Reason To Live back off the ground up there in Connecticut with Shane. Shields came down from Philly. He brought a video camera to make a documentary of the events. He wanted to do an interview with each of us. I was the 1st one and gave mine on the bench outside of the hall. I thought it was pretty fun and will look good on this supposed DVD if we ever get around to it.
He shot Penny's interview inside of the hall. Andy's was inside of the ladies room there. The show started right at 5:30 with our friends Matt and his buddy Damian's electronic outfit "Just Us". I was enjoying the trippy beats. Kite as "Kill The CEO" was next. He was upfront with his stuff dressed up in suit jacket and tie with a creepy looking George Bush mask. More electronic stuff that was pretty good.
The first live band of the night was "Styrofoam Paradise". These kids were a last second fill in as In His Fall had to drop out. Turns out it was their 1st show with a new drummer and I thought they did a great job. I really enjoyed thier take on GG Allin's "Bite It You Scum". Guerilla Mask was up next and they turned in a strong set of punk rock. I think they had a new member or 2 since the last time we played with them. Nice job buy those guys as well.
We were up next. Dustin gave me a hand with my stuff and before I knew it we were blasting into "Totally Worthless". The Sheckie kids were front and center and having a good time. Quite a few other people were dancing and singing along. Eric Kutepow managed to hide his friggin' trumpet and wound up playing along to "Girls With Boyfriends". I was laughing so hard I couldn't sing my backing vocals. I was having a great set really getting into seeing the kids have a good time. Andy broke out a new slow song "Price To Pay". I thought it went over well considering it was new.
By the end of the set I was pretty much exhausted. I knew Andy was probaly gonna play "Cretin Hop" as the last song and I tried to head him off but he went into it anyway. Now before you slam me, I love the friggin' Ramones. But if I'm gonna play the song I want to do it right and I was afraid I was going to struggle with it. I even nailed Andy with one of sticks to get his attention but it was too late. He already said it and the crowd wanted it. Thankfully I got thru it OK.
So him and I kinda had a few heated words afterwards as I was breaking down. Nothing too serious though. In the meantime I hear my crash cymbal go to the floor. I guess I was still so adrenalined up I thought Shields did it deliberately so I shoved his camera in his face. I felt like a horses ass of course and apologized to everyone afterwards. Still didn't ruin a great show. I had a good time regardless.
Resting Eyes of the Riot finished things up. I thought we were gonna have a real riot at first 'coz a fire alarm was going off or something and they thought they weren't going to play. They ended playing and did a great set. I still don't know exactly what to call their music, but I dig it a lot. The kids were all out there practicing their kung fu. Hey, as long as they're having fun.
Our buddy Ivan was able to make it out to the show for the first time in awhile. He rode with me as I dropped the gear off and then headed over to Kite's for the aftershow party. We wound up watching Sheild's video. It really turned out great. Of course we had to rewind and look at my freak out at the end several times. I couldn't help but laugh at it. Me angry, me shove the camera, Sheilds call me a dildo, Ivan yelling out "my man with the camera"!, and to top it off, you hear Eric playing "Girls With Boyfriends" on the trumpet again in the background. Too friggin' funny!!
