Shields B-day Party, Philadelphia, PA 1/7/06
The day started off pretty crappy for me. I was really feeling sick. So much that I actually called out of work which is something I never do. I layed down guildlines for Andy for me to even play. Someone needed to not only help me breakdown the kit, but drive me as well. Luckily my faithful roadie George helped on both counts.
Andy had came over early and packed most of the gear in his car and left early. I had to wait for the kids and Geo. K had gotten an oil change which made us run a little late but we still had plenty of time. They didn't even want us to play until 8. So we were on the road by 5:30. George followed the kids. I must say I was impressed by his driving skills but I was pretty much out of it.
We made great time and got there a little after 7. Nobody was really there yet. Got all the gear in and down to the basement. Their whole rowhouse is tiny and the basement is no exception. Not much head room for the tall folks and pretty small too. Gotta say I really liked the whole vibe of it from all the posters and lights down there. So I'm in the middle of setting up when I hear Andy and Penny arguing. I'm not really gonna go into details, but let's just say for a sec I thought we weren't gonna play at all. Thankfully shit was ironed out and the show went on.
It ended up being one helluva show and party. The fake mustaches being drawn on were hilarious. All the local lunatics were out in force as well as a few new faces. Pancakes filmed the whole thing. We ended up playing 3 sets with all kind of stuff being pulled out of the hat. I think not worrying about singing for this show gave me the stamina to get thru it. Maybe the warm shot of Frangellica helped me. I wanted blackberry brandy but it was next best thing. We let the b-day boy and Pancakes do a rap thing with us playing behind them that sounded really good. Everyone was way drunk by the 3rd set which led to some interesting sing alongs. George was ripped! Everyone had a great time.
Afterwards I joined the party and hung out catching catnaps on the couch until Geo wouldn't stop fondling me, that fag! Went down to the basement where Andy was already crashed. The kids were sleeping in the bug. I caught about an hour or 2 of sleep before leaving at 4:30 With Pancakes and Shields still partying strong. Pancakes was gonna set of fireworks which was the definate cue to leave! I'm glad everything worked out and ended up being one of our most fun shows ever. Think we all had grins on our faces the whole time. Shields couldn't thank us enough and it was more than a pleasure to play for our friend.
